Shifman is a handmade luxury mattress brand that has been around since the last 1800s and has a legacy of elegant design and is found in mattress retailers and at Bloomingdales. Their mattresses are very high priced, usually well over $5,000 to start. Though they are a status symbol for some and boast hand craftsmanship, there are those that find that they provide a bad value for the materials used.
Solstice Sleep Products make a variety of hybrid, innerspring, and memory foam mattresses for the US market and acquired Jamison Bedding. Solstice products are predominantly sold in the midwest and in Florida. For those familiar with Solstice, they are known for being price competitive versus other in-store options. However, they have had issues with durability and customer service complaints.
Based on our aggregated reviews and our scoring method, we recommend Shifman in this match up!

If you are thinking about this brand, learn more about the specifics below. Sadly, they don't get the best reception from all customers. Some spoke high praise about their experience, but many others had issues with the feel.
In terms of having comfortable support for all, these mattresses have mixed feelings. Some customers feel cozy with these mattresses, but others didn't feel that the mattress was equipped to provide comfort. If you have a heavier body type than average, these mattresses may leave something to be desired.
Edge support is an essential attribute for those that like to sit on the side of the mattress. Some customers have found these mattresses to not be evenly supportive.
Customers find that durability is one of the most important attributes to finding a mattress. We all are hopeful our mattress will last a decade or more and stay just as cozy as day one. Sadly, not all sleepers agree that these mattresses are durable, and some have had issues with longevity after a short time. If you are considering using as your full time mattress, read over the reviews, warranty, and return policies to make sure that you are safe in your purchase.
Customer reviews can be hard to see from a high level -- especially with all of the marketing being done by companies and retailers. These mattresses, unfortunately, don't score as well with customers. There are still folks that love their mattresses, but there are many others with complaints. Read on below to get the details on the specifics.
Overall, these mattresses may leave something to be desired in terms of lasting support. Though there are some that prefer the feel of these mattresses, some have found these mattresses to be disagreeable with their body. If you are looking at this brand, make sure to do additional research on how it will work for your body type before purchasing.
Overall, edge support is extremely important to those with mobility issues. Others don't mind a slight dip on the side when they sit on the edge. These mattresses may not offer the kind of edge support that lasts so make sure to do added research if it is important to you.
Finding a mattress with long lasting comfort is awesome, but difficult. Sadly, sleepers don't rate these mattresses well when it comes to durability. That said, some sleepers may discover their mattresses lasts more than a decade, while other sleepers may find their mattress falters quickly. If you have a wider frame than average, make sure to do some more research because you may be at a higher risk for durability issues.
I bought my first Shifman Mattress in Bloomdales in 2001. It lasted me over ten years and was only tossed out due to the impossibility of getting such a heavy, well-made mattress down my third floor tenement stairs. I switched brands to my regret and have never gotten the good night's sleep I had with my Shifman. I can't even turn the mattress over because it is a one-sided mattress, something I was unaware of. When this one bites the dust, I'm returning to Shifman. It is a costly product and worth every cent.View More Reviews
I am extremely disappointed with the performance of our Shifman mattress but even more disappointed with their customer service. We purchased a king pillow top mattress 20 months ago. Within a few months, large depressions began to form on each side of the bed. I called the store and was told to turn it more frequently than the once per month recommended by the manufacturer. I followed instructions and the depressions worsened. It felt as if we were sleeping in a trough with hills on either side! I contacted Shifman and received no response. I then contacted the store where we purchased the bed. They sent out a representative as well as the Shifman rep. The Shifman rep told us this was normal and we should turn the bed 90 degrees and sleep on the short axis for a month or so until the middle of the bed compresses. He never touched the bed or took any measurements to judge the depth of the depressions. Bottom line.....they will do nothing to correct the situation. Shifman has a 10 year non-prorated warranty but, clearly, they don't stand by their product. My only hope, at this point, is that the furniture store has a higher ethical standard and will make this right. Lesson learned- price is not a predictor of quality.
$4,500 for a queen size mattress and foundation and a back ache every morning! When I called their customer service, the response was (1) it was my fault because the mattress had not gotten used to me yet (after five months?) and (2) what do you want us to do about it? Then, she hung up. A second call was even worse. Someone who said she was Eileen screamed when I protested about the first call and said 'I can put you on hold' before hanging up. The crudest, rudest people I have ever encountered in business. Needless to say, their creation is out of my house, and none will ever return.
A good nights sleep is of utmost importance! I've bought Shifman mattresses in the past and although they are bit pricey, they are top quality, comfortable and well worth the cost...you get what you pay for. I would highly recommend Shifman Mattresses!!!!
We have been had 5 different beds in 16 years. This is the first bed that is so comfortable and supportive that we are getting the best sleep we ever had.
I'm awake bc a "fell in a slope" in my 4 month mattress. Stickley stands by there low quality product. Maybe Shifman Mattresses does too....
Wow Shifman Mattresses Your refusal to uphold the warranty of your product is quite disappointing. For a product that is so expensive and allegedly so high quality I would expect more from the manufacturer!
Had my first night's sleep on my new Shifman.. It was incredible! Thanks to the amazing artisans!
I was tired of low quality mattresses and wanted a mattress that could be turned. Research led me to Shifman. The problem is it is too heavy to turnover. Even when my son helps me it is too heavy. Whats the point of having a two sided mattress if its not realistic to turn it. Big grooves develope even when you rotate it. I gave 3 stars because its made relatively well but for the money spent I'll just get a regular new mattress every 5 years.
went thru 3 of their mattresses all of which bellied within months and had to be replaced. Now on a fourth non pillowtop which may be doing the same thing. had previously owned shifman for years with outstanding performance but they seem to have changed their design to allow the mattress to bend for mechanical beds. we’ll see haw the “tradition” model holds up.

Bought top end Jamison mattress set....box springs squeak horribly after less than one year. Had to escalate to the CEO of the company before I was given a replacement after getting no where with 'customer service' for 4 months.
I am writing from Wisconsin. I purchased a Solstice Sleep Products mattress for my son fall of last year. Within two months of purchase, the mattress started sagging. For the past four months I have been working diligently to get the mattress replaced. While the company agrees it is a faulty mattress and covered by warranty, they want it returned to the manufacturer in Indianapolis, IN. We live in mid Wisconsin. The cost of shipping is almost as much as the cost of the mattress. The store where we purchased it at has gone out of business. Just want all buyers to beware of poor quality products and no customer service with this company! Very disappointed in Wisconsin.
I bought the Bar Harbor after the sales person assured me Marriott Hotels use this mattress n all their hotels. I was looking for a Beauty Rest and decided on this one..MISTAKE... after only one year it sags, makes a groaning noise if you even lean on it, it is so hard and uncomfortable I have taken to sleeping on the couch. Contacted the company twice with no response. Filed a complain with the BBB
I bought an Ashley B 183 HB Jamison Queen set and frame from Smith's Furniture Galleria on 8-31-14. We noticed it was harder than it seemed in the store after sleeping on it. My husband Bobby wanted to have them take it back immediately, but I thought it just needed breaking in. We have realized after two years that all our joints hurt more and more, and the mattress and box springs are just getting more compressed and harder instead of softer the more we sleep on it. We are unable to get a good night’s sleep. We were sold a discontinued model that Solstice was not going to produce any longer. These box springs and mattress should have not been sold anymore. They knew there were complaints about this product, yet they continued to sell them. Nobody told us they were bad.
We bought this mattress a few years ago and within a month, we noticed it sank where we slept. Told the sales person and was told we need to turn the mattress and flip it.. Yes, we turn it and flip it, it still sinks in the areas we slept.. ridges next to the sleeping area are very noticeable, when you roll onto the ridge, it definitely can be felt. This mattress is easier to turn than flip, I can turn it myself. The mattress is a king size and so heavy, it is not possible for me to flip it by myself.. The sales person was nice talking with, said to keep flipping and turning it.. which we are.. We have another king mattress and never have had to turn or flip it. Have had it for over 15 years and it sleeps so much better. It is my recommendation anyone reading this comment, look for another made mattress. I am hoping the manufacture will help me correct this problem. I am about to trash his one and invest again in another mattress.
