Intellibed was founded in 2000 with a mission to be a sleep and health wellness company. Their hybrid mattresses feature their innovative Gel Matrix® -- a responsive gel grid that is firmer than memory foam. Intellibed mattresses feature layers of latex or memory foam, the Gel Matrix, and a coil support system. Overall, customers like their mattresses and liken them to other familiar gel technology used in other mattresses. Still, the price points are much higher than expected for the materials, and some customers have mentioned issues with firmness and longevity.
Popular mattress-in-a-box company, Purple®, has taken the industry by storm with their responsive, purple colored polymer. The Purple Gel Grid used in their mattresses features air channels to keep things cool while providing a supportive cradling feel. With 13 mattresses to choose from, they run a bit softer than memory foam mattresses, being well-suited for side sleepers. Some folks love the feel of these mattresses, though there are others that prefer a more traditional feel.

Both Intellibed and Purple use gel-polymer technology in the top layers of their mattresses. However, whereas Purple has focused on providing price-competitive offerings, Intellibed has opted to go to the high end on price. When it comes to customer satisfaction, Intellibed gets good ratings from customers overall, but doesn't have the widespread popularity or positive brand association that Purple has. Additionally, there are some that have disagreed with the price value and firmness options available for these mattresses versus Purple and other mattress brands.
While support isn't the same as firmness, Intellibed has invested its energy making mattresses that are designed to be 'Firm and Soft™.' This means that they are aiming to focus on the common denominator among sleepers when it comes to firmness. For many sleepers, they are able to find comfort with Intellibed's trademark approach and report well-rounded support. Their zoned coil systems are also designed to properly cradle the spine. Purple, however, has three firmness options in their All-New Purple mattress, which many sleepers appreciate.
Intellibed has focused on bringing high quality materials into their mattresses. They use high quality zoned support systems in many of their mattresses that will last a substantial amount of time. Versus the Original Purple, these mattresses may be more durable for some sleepers. However, versus The All-New Purple Mattress that features pocketed coils, Purple gets more positive reviews from customers, and especially when the price is taken into consideration, the Purple mattress looks like a better bargain.
Purple is one of the most popular mattresses sold online. While we still think there are plenty of better mattresses out there, they still get good marks from customers when it comes to comfort. Some of the differentiators versus Intellibed include their firmness options and competitive pricepoint for the offering. Some sleepers do have some disagreements about how the gel feels to them. This affects both Purple and Intellibed.
Support is key for proper spinal alignment and long term comfort. Additionally, many are not aware of how the gel polymer surface layer will feel in terms of support. The gel does feel different than foam and allows for more contour than memory foam on average. This means that the layers below will be handling the main job of supporting the spine. While both mattresses do well with support overall, the All New Purple mattress offers greater support with the inclusion of the coils. Versus Intellibed, the addition of firmness options in the All New Purple mattress means that you can find something that is more tailored to your support needs.
When it comes to durability, Purple's new mattress, due to its inclusion of a pocketed coil system, is going to be more durable on average than the Original Purple mattress that features a dense foam core as its support system. Versus the Intellibed mattresses, the All New Purple should have comparable durability for most sleepers for a lower pricepoint.

View More ReviewsI read and watched multiple reviews and was a little skeptical about if this mattress would be a good fit for me. I decided to give it a try, and am so happy with my decision. I have only been able to sleep on it a few nights, so I can't speak to long term satisfaction, but just the feel of the mattress is so unique and comfortable. Every time I pass by my bed now, I can't help but flop on it and lay there for a few minutes. If you are on the fence about trying the mattress, I would say go for it for sure. The only disadvantage that I've noticed so far is that it is near impossible to get out of bed in the morning. I was a few minutes late to work the last few mornings because I did not want to leave my bed. When I was reading all the reviews, I heard that purple fluffs up their review page to make their mattress look better. After trying this mattress, I do not believe that is true. I believe that people genuinely love the product and want to share it with other people. I am not typically one to go out of my way to write a review, but this product is incredible so I felt compelled to do so. Obviously everyone is different so you may not have the same experience I have had, but if you are on the fence and looking for a great mattress, give Purple a try.
