Personal Comfort is taking on Sleep Number to create a better number bed that can be personalized to your desired firmness. Is Personal Comfort the better bed at a lower price? We think there are many positive attributes, but there are also elements that we aren't so sure about. With problems ranging from durability to technology, we think there may be a reason to steer clear of number beds.
Sleep Innovations is a fairly recent contender in the online and offline mattress space. They sell predominantly on Amazon, other online retailers, and through their offline partner network at stores like Target, Sears, and Kohl's. Overall, they offer a cost-effective solution but without many of the perks of some of the newer brands.
Based on our aggregated reviews and our scoring method, we recommend Sleep Innovations in this match up!

Customer reviews can be difficult to get at and even harder to understand -- especially with all of the marketing being done by companies and retailers. These mattresses, unfortunately, don't get the best reception from customers versus competitors. There are still folks that are content, but others who are really not. Read on to understand the specifics of the mattresses.
These mattresses aren't ideal for everyone in terms of their support. Though some sleepers find these mattresses to be comfortable, some have found these mattresses to be disagreeable with their body. If you are considering these mattresess, make sure to take a look further before buying.
Edge Support
Edge support is always important to those who like sitting on the side of the bed. Others don't mind a slight dip on the side when they sit on the edge. Edge support in these mattresses may not be excellent so make sure to do added research if it is important for you.
These mattresses may not last as long as you'd hope. Some sleepers have had complaints about the feel and durability over a short time. If you are shopping for a mattress with lasting support but are also are larger than average person, these may provide initial comfort, but do some more research before buying.
Some sleepers are content with their beds, but others are not as pleased overall. Despite those that had a good experience, overall these mattresses have lower than average satisfaction from customers. Read on below for more information from customers if you are interested in buying.
Most customers report feeling supported on these mattresses, but others described some discomfort with their mattress choice. For those that are heavier folks, take a look at some of the reviews before purchasing as you'll want to ensure that you're adequately supported.
Edge Support
For those that like sitting on their mattress with their feet hanging off the side, most folks will be comfortable with the support from these mattresses. That said, some have had issues over the mattress life so make sure to review more if you need edge support for mobility reasons.
We all want to find a great mattress that offers good durability and lasts forever, but that is sometimes easier said than done. That said, data on materials, customer reviews, and tests make things a bit easier. These mattresses are durable and will should last longer than average for most sleepers, but some who are larger in body type may experience them to not last as long.
Best bed I have ever slept on. Easily half the price of a Sleep Number and the quality is so much better. The mattress is outstanding and the frame is great too. The frame is actually a Reverie which is another bed company, which I thought was interesting but it is simply perfect. The only complaint is that the website for the company is a little outdated so I had to call my order in. No issues whatsoever though.
View More ReviewsCompared to Sleep Number functionability, theirs are almost on an equal scale BUT the exceptionally strong rubber odor lingers for more than 3 weeks after assembly. Unsure if breathing this while asleep will have a health issue later.
Be prepared to spend hours assembling the bed and referring to their video. No white glove service.
A piece from the whole package was send wrongly but the waiting time for the correct one was quick. It seemed that there were not more than 2 customer service persons who are not thoroughly knowledgeable when an isolated problem comes up. Kept referring us to the video.
When told that we want to return the bed sets, they ask that we continue to try them longer as the 120days trial was not fulfilled. WHAT! We were breathing in rubber fumes, was that not enough reason! The return was a painstaking process of waiting of more than a month with continual calling to ask about the possible paperwork was annoying. Unbelievable!
My son recommended Personal Comfort after he had done a lot of research. Since they had the adjustable base I wanted and matched a lower price I found online, I decided to go with them. Upon delivery, I discovered that the wrong bases were ordered (Cal King vs. King) and the delivery service took the bases back. Personal Comfort was able to verify that I ordered King vs. Cal King, based on the phone recording of my order, and had the correct bases sent right away. Mistakes happen; it's how they are handled and whether or not they are satisfactorily resolved that makes a huge difference. And, Personal Comfort did an excellent job in resolving the issue quickly, without hassle and to my satisfaction. I would definitely recommend Personal Comfort to anyone in the market for a new bed or base.
I did a lot of research on an air mattress bed. I purchased the Personal Comfort A8 queen single mattress. I only need to adjust for me. The highest adjustment is 50. I put it at 32. I am 45 days into the bed and I believe that this bed may be the reason that I no longer hurt when I wake up. I can get the support I need for my back, hips and shoulders and I can get out of bed in the morning without being bent over in pain. I have scoliosis of the back, arthritis in my spine and a hip replacement that left one leg shorter than the other and my pelvis shifted. With my prior conventional mattress I went to sleep with spine adjusted from my day's exercise and stretching, but I woke up in pain every morning feeling crooked and unable to stand up. With the Personal Comfort bed my body feels great every morning. I have only had it for 45 days, but I am so grateful that I finally found a bed that is working for me. I am also sleeping through the night; no waking up with arm numbness or shoulder discomfort. I have started using a thin down pillow, very little loft. My neck feels good when I wake up. All those special memory foam head and neck pillows I have, and I have every tempurpedic pillow they sell, are not necessary for my comfort to sleep. I found the 'free gift' pillow with the bed purchase too hot to sleep on. I don't recommend that.
We are very happy with our new Personal Comfort bed and adjustable base. We were also satisfied with the purchase experience. During that process we were well aware of the company's return policy, unlike other reviewers here. My guess is that the company made this policy clearer and perhaps more visible on their website. We previously owned a Select Comfort bed for many years so we knew what the bed would be like before we bought it. If you've not slept on an air chamber bed before, be sure you understand and can accept the return policy before you buy. Every body is different and some may not enjoy this type of bed.
We previously bought and used the Big Name competition number bed. It was a miserable purchase experience, and we almost walked away due to bad salesman and sales tactics. But we liked the adjustable air bed experience. Then I stumbled across Personal Comfort. I had a bit of trepidation about buying it over the phone. It turned out to be a wonderful buying experience resulting in what I feel are superior materials. Instead of the competition's tactics of adding more and more charges, and making you feel bad for not buying every possible option and upgrade, the Personal Comfort phone sales kept tossing in extras and discounts and "no charge", saving much aggravation and a few hundred bucks over the competition. The accessories were a bit on the high side for price, such as the simple bed frame, but it was decent quality, easy setup and nice to do one stop shopping. The bed arrived promptly, with no issues on the order (everyone I know seems to have order issues with the competition). Do not be scared by the "assemble it yourself". This is not rocket science and good instructions are included. One point of warning. They tell you to air out the foam for a day. We did not notice much smell from the foam. BUT, the air chamber reeked of plasticizer, and took a couple weeks to air out, since we discovered this after assembling the bed. Find a place outside or in the garage to air out the air chamber as soon as you get it, and plan on a few days to a week or so to air it out. The only issue we have had is the power plug seems to have a flaky connection to the pump and is disconnected if you look at it wrong. I will likely duct tape that in place as an easy fix. We love the Personal Comfort A8 bed, and bought two twin XL to make a king size, for versatility (snoring and old age issues), even though its a pricey way to buy a king size. Definitely a superior product to the Number competition in this model. Regarding firmness complaints.... Read the instructions. You may need to do the simple calibration process. I also note I use a very low setting compared to Sleep Number. I use about a 45 on SN, but for PC I only use 17-20. Don't be afraid to try very low settings. Unlike a regular soft mattress, the air number mattresses do not keep getting softer over time.
Bad experience! I don't normally write bad reviews but it is warranted here. I bought the bed through Amazon and waited a few weeks to set it up. after putting it together i slept on it for two nights of tossing and turning. My arm started getting numb, my shoulder hurt and my neck still isn't right. I called immediately when they told me that because I went through Amazon they can't honor the 90 day sleep guarantee. So they sold me the extra padding package for another $350 and I had to reassemble the bed, (understandable). So now I'm sleeping on it for two weeks and while the bed is much better it still does not compare to my old Serta. Don't waste the money.
This is a horrible product and the company has such an awful return policy that you cannot get out of this contract. The bed is hard as a rock and they sell you pillows that are so small that they are worthless. it is honestly a joke that the pillows are sold as a real pillow. The bed does not change when you change the settings it just gets higher or lower the firmness never changes. Save yourself trouble and buy a air mattress it will be better quality. They tell you that there is memory foam on the bed but it is nothing like memory foam. I have never made a purchase that I regret as much as this mattress. They talked me into the Silver sLE it is not a comfortable mattress. Do not buy this unless you can go and try it out. They told me they have a cooling product as well it is simply not true.
Personal Comfort Beds BUYER BEWARE!!!! I purchased a Personal Comfort bed in March 2014. I broke my neck in a car accident and at the suggest of a Chiropractor I looked into this type of bed. I researched the best value naturally and found a website claiming to be unbiased and detailing the Personal Comfort bed with a review rating of 100% (i guess I am naive and believed the website to be unbiased) it also list a detail of return policies which now I know to be inaccurate as it list Personal Comfort as 100% satisfaction guaranteed with NO fee on returns - MAKE SURE YOU READ THE PERSONAL COMFORT FINE PRINT! It is NOT offered on the A2 minimal model! and you MUST keep the bed for 45nights! I woke up to a STIFF neck! tried it with a memory foam topper, and a down topper. TWO weeks of therapy on my neck! Of course in calling I was told again about the 150.00 return fee! but then ALSO informed that the BASE could NOT be returned! They want to deduct ANOTHER 200.00 from the purchase price, and stated that I agreed to that? REALLY who in their right mind would agree to that? NOW after SEVERAL emails, and calls, etc. I have received the required RMA form! BEWARE! that's my advise! TAKE PICTURES! as within their BBB file, they always seem to claim that foam is torn, or a tag is cut! If you have an issue, email them to have PROOF of what you are and ARE NOT told about! They claim the phone conversations are recorded? Guess we will find out as the credit card company and the BBB will investigate it during my dispute process!
So I ordered the A8 Top panel XL. Total $186.00 in comparison to what I had the A2 top the basic entry level. The Rep. Faiza Mansoor was very helpful and courteous. After sleeping on this Top I was led to believe it was going to be a Total of 13". but when measured it measures 7". In the 2 pictures I have The one from the 8" top there are 5 pieces that make up the Top. In the 13" top there are 11 pieces. When i received the A8 Top there were pieces not like what is shown in the picture that are missing. Overall it is better then what I had but Honesty is the Best policy and what I have is not what is shown.
The bed works as expected. While not being a miracle cure my wife's bad back feels much better when she gets up. Set up was easy. Compresser does make a little noise, but after you find your number does not run that much. Air chambers have held air well. No leaks. Air chambers do not separate from each other Mine took about a month to be delivered.
We love our Personal Comfort bed. It was really easy to set up (once we figured out how the frame went together) the bed itself was really easy. We have enjoyed sleeping on new bed for a little over a month. We did have a few mornings we woke up still until we realized that the number setting Sleep Number gave to us was too hard. We lowered the air to a comfortable 38 and now we sleep deep and cozy.
Great bed, great service.
Awesome bed! Very happy!
The only thing which made me consider a four star rating was the time it took to get the bed once ordered, 59 days. However, Personal Comfort made things right by sending some free sheets. The bed is very comfortable, and appears to be made of quality material!
The company was wonderful to work with, and the bed had exceeded every expectation. My husband used to have a Sleep Number Bed, and this one is so much better. No gap or displacement between the two halves, and both our backs are doing SO much better. We switched from a Tempurpedic to this, and will never have another kind of bed.
We LOVE our Personal Comfort mattress!
Everything I expected. Relative to the competition a great value.
so far very good
when I call they are very helpful noproblem
I found Personal Comfort by Google, and I needed a new bed. I really love number beds, but couldn't afford Sleep Number. In fact, I ended up on Personal Comfort at first thinking it was Sleep Number. I seemed to have trouble getting the sale price to show, so I called. Ann was extremely friendly and helpful while ordering the mattress. When she said it would take up to 20 days for the bed to arrive, she wasn't kidding. It was a long wait and multiple shipments. I wasn't happy that when I called to inquire how many shipments I could expect, they couldn't tell me. Then I got to putting it together. I put it together alone, and consider myself a competent smart woman. However, it took over four hours, grit, frustration and more frustration. I ordered a Twin XL and the foam kept falling over, the sides of the base pad didn't come up over the sides, like the instructions show. The instructions show a couple putting together a king or queen size like it's super easy. It's not. Then I found out as I was trying to put on the head board the company sent me a queen. Now to the Company's credit Shawna corrected the order and sent out a new headboard as well as fixed some other issues. Just to note to first time buyers, the fold out base along *with* the snap tight frame sits very high and rocks/see-saws as you turn and move at night, it's not comfortable and at minimum it's annoying. So if you want the snap tight, get the basic frame. Read all descriptions before ordering. Personally, too I have to add, I truly love the brushed microfiber sheets- super comfortable!
I have owned a Sleep Number bed and Personal Comfort beds are more comfortable, better quality and more than half the price of Sleep Number. My only wish would be to make the remotes wireless, but they have an app for that.
bed is OK... no back ache, but also not comfortable. customer service is really lacking training on products !!! i could not get answers on most questions. order was VERY late and incomplete. when i called to ask where the other piece was, i was treated as an annoyance. I dont want anything extra .... JUST WHAT I PAID FOR ! bad experience. wont buy again
Excellent i like
I thought the experience was great and I love the mattress, but my husband, who weighs a lot more than me, doesn't like it.
The bed is good quality and comfortable. I really do not like the controller. It works odd. I click on control to see the number and then it shows that it is changing. Customer support calls but is not really helpful. Answered my question wrong and did not reply after email for correct information. Still happy I purchased Personal Comfort bed. Saved alot of money over you know who.
While people were nice to me, sales people were not very knowledgeable in product and my needs. They did not take in account my specific medical issues which I explained in great detail. The first bed I received for 1900$ was truly a joke, not only wickedly uncomfortable but very cheap material. The upgrade was an improvement but still very uncomfortable. They kept wanting me to upgrade and spend more money, meanwhile I'm getting no sleep and back killing me. They were very prompt on refund so I could buy new bed that I'm happy with and cost a lot less.
Quick service and a high quality bed at a fraction of the cost of a sleep number bed. What a great nights sleep!
The bed itself is fine, though I feel overpriced for something which you need to assemble yourself. The process took me about 90 minutes including unboxing, but wasn’t terribly complicated. The shipping was an absolute disaster...took 3 weeks longer than it was supposed to and when I called the customer service manager tried to guilt trip me by saying “well we are behind but I’ll put tourneys order ahead of people who are suffering from cancer and dying”. Seriously? Wow. So overall I like the bed but strongly disliked the service and the company itself.
We have had our split king for about four months now and absolutely love it! Sometimes, as I wake up during the night, my first thought is how incredibly comfortable the bed is and how much better my back and hips feel. We would definitely give a five except my "air mattress" had to be replaced as it wasn't holding air. But they responded positively and immediately to address the problem, it was shipped the next day, and it was easy for me to replace. I love that defective parts can be replaced (in this case free) instead of replacing the whole mattress. I hope this bed is as good in ten years as it is now!
My husband and I purchased this bed in 2014. It was fine in the beginning, but after about three to four years, I began to ache all over. I noticed quite a bit of sagging (I'm not all that big), but when I unzipped it, to change out the foam, there was no sagging. I knew I could probably get a new cover, but sadly, my husband died and I couldn't lift the bed to exchange the cover by myself. The pain I was experiencing was so great that I just replaced the entire mattress. Perhaps too costly of a thing to do, but I no longer wanted to put more money into the mattress and then learn that didn't make any difference.
We have had a basic queen Personal Comfort brand air bed for 4 years now and like it... our mattress is a 10" thick queen size and was $800 . One of the two controllers went bad after 2 years and was replaced very quickly and hassle free under their 3 year warranty. The bed itself is trouble free.. Never leaks..In fact, the air pressure changes a little based on the atmospheric pressure on a particular day-up or down, but the valves etc do not leak and pump has been trouble free. There is no 'valley' between the two twin mattresses that form the queen size, so 'cuddling is the same as other mattresses. The side rails have held up well. Overall it is a 'firm bed on which we have a cheap foam pad. The main advantage to air beds is that they do not get lumps and valleys like an innerspring. we suggest that you get the mattress 'toppers' at Walmart etc for Much less money.
We purchased the personal comfort bed after watching the video that said it was better than a sleep number bed. My husband and I both have back problems and was looking for something we could rest on. We were unable to rest and got up every morning aching all over. I purchased the bed they suggested and was told I could return it within the first 120 days if I didn't like it. What they didn't tell me was that the adjustable base, which cost $1800, in not returnable. We had problems with the bases when we first received them and had to deal with the company that makes the bases, which is a different company, even had to climb under the bed on the floor, to get it working properly. The people that delivered the bed left without it working . There were even staples sticking out of the bottom of the bases where papers had been pulled off and left the staples. I would not recommend this bed but if you do decide to try it be aware that the base in nonrefundable. I personally cannot afford $1800 for a base that I cannot use.
Think twice before purchasing a bed from Personal Comfort! There is fine print they don’t tell you about, such as, the bed base is not returnable or refundable! We researched for months before purchasing this bed. They had us on the phone over an hour during the initial sale, answering every question we had, reassuring us we had 120 DAYS to change our mind, and also selling us on extra mattress protectors etc, worth hundreds of extra dollars. You only have the website to see the products. And when our bed arrived, it looked like a hospital bed, not like the one on the website. It wasn’t until we started having problems in the first few weeks of having the bed, that we learned that we unknowingly agreed to some fine print, that our base was not returnable. That was NOT made known during the call. We were told multiple times that we had 120 days to change our minds. It wasn’t until we took them up on that offer that, in fact, you cant. On top of that, the bed was manufactured by multiple companies, and the base of the bed ( the part you will have problems with) is made by Reverie, and reverie has a customer service number that, if they have a high call volume, and wait time is more than 5 minutes, you have to leave a message and wait for them to call you back. VERY inconvenient. After 3 months of back and forth phone tag, my control box for the bed was finally replaced, and still would not work properly. I was promised an extension and a compensation for all the trouble, which was never given. But several times I insisted that I just want this bed gone and my money back, and I was denied. And when it went past my 120 days, they said “sorry, youre past your 120 days.” Personal comfort offered a 0% interest for a year, which turns out to be a credit card. I started a dispute with that credit card company. This credit card company did not ask my side of the story, and when personal comfort LIED on many accounts about the status of my account (such as, the customer wont contact us…) the credit card sided with merchant. I have had this bed since July and it is now March. One side of the bed hasn’t worked since 6 weeks after I got it, and the other side of the bed hasn’t worked since about Christmas. You have 4 different companies you work with for this one bed. (personal comfort, reverie, the repair company, and the credit card company.) This has been an absolute DISGUSTING experience.
After much research we purchased a bed on April 8,2020. Due to Covid the order was delayed(not the company's fault). After contacting the company in May to find out the status of our order they agreed to ship but not do the in home setup, we agreed to this as we had already paid for the bed 2 moths prior. We received the bed and the base the end of may. We watched the you tube video for set up as no instructions came with the product only how to attach the guard around the edge of bed. First complaint (DO NOT BUY THE SPLIT TOP BED) the split in the top is very uncomfortable, its not like it shows in pictures as you or your spouse will slide though the split, it does not matter if the bed is flat or raised(more if raised). Secondly the bed is super uncomfortable, it is as hard as a rock and no matter what number you put it on. Third we slept on this bed for two weeks only and immediately requested a return(in June) they sent us the paperwork RMA to fill out and FAX in you can not email it, we did that they received it and confirmed in Email with a ticket number. Never heard back so called again in July only to speak with another representative that stated only the mattress is returnable not the base, told her was never told we could not return a $2500.00 base and she said they would listen to the original sales call to verify and if that was the case they would take the base back. We never heard back so we have had this ginormous bed sitting in our living room for 5 months, Today I call once more and get yet another representative that tells me I need to send in yet another RMA for the return of the mattress only, I ask to speak to a supervisor and the response I got was no and you can not return the base period, (I WOULD NEVER SPEND OVER $2500 ON SOMETHING I CAN NOT RETURN). Lastly the customer service is a JOKE. They intentionally make you wait the 120 days so you can not dispute with the credit card company.
My wife and I had slept on waterbeds for the first 30 years of our marriage and loved how comfortable they were, but we got tired of having to constantly having to drain them to patch the tiny holes that would develop. We tried a lot of different mattresses, but decided the smart airbeds came closest to matching the waterbed comfort. After looking at the way the different beds were made and the prices, we selected the PC A6 King Size. After 8 months, the bed is still just as comfortable as the day we set it up.
Please same your self the trouble the worse customer service. They will not call back and no way to get refunded.
I think everyone should get one of these, they arrive in a tall but moderate size box, After unboxing you cut the plastic cover and it starts to expand to its normal size, I find it VERY comfortable and it keeps me from getting too hot at night. I am sleeping better than at anytime in my 67 years!!!!
View More ReviewsThis is the best mattress I have ever slept on. I know some people give it a bad rating saying it is too firm, but it really is only about personal preference. I have slept on hard beds and this is not one of them. Yes it is firm, you don't feel like you are sleeping on a soft pillow top but I don't think that is best for your back anyway. I had back surgery last year and this mattress addresses issues that no other mattress has, regarding the many issues my back requires. It take a night or two to get used to the difference but once you stick with it, you will be happy you transitioned.
As of today, this mattress is a huge improvement over our last one. It is quite tall and doesn't need a box spring (we have it on a wood platform). The mattress is firm, but given a few minutes, you sink into it a bit, which really makes it quite comfortable to sleep on at night. It doesn't keep cool quite to the extent as I was hoping. It's pretty humid here in the warm Florida Panhandle, but I wasn't expecting miracles. Good value overall for the price tag.
I have owned this mattress for over 1 year and love it. I bought this as a toddler bed when we were transitioning my son from the crib to a bed. This bed is tall enough that you don't need a frame for it. For the time being, we have the mattress on the floor with no frame and don't have to worry if my son falls off the bed. The bed is comfortable for him and adults. I often find myself sleeping in this bed as my son sometimes needs dad with him to go back to sleep. I love this bed and its just as good as my very expensive beauty rest mattress.
Pretty firm. I loved it, my wife hated it. If your looking for a mattress that's super soft like a plush DO NOT buy this. For a firm mattress this thing is incredible.
This mattress may very well be the firmest mattress that I have ever had the displeasure of sleeping on. If you want a firm mattress it would be a great buy. If you are looking for plush you should go ahead and purchase a mattress topper as well.
This is our first memory foam mattress purchase. For the last 13 years we have been sleeping on a pillow top mattress, but that old mattress was getting pretty lumpy and old and I couldn't find the exact same brand to replace it. So we started mattress shopping..... ugh how I hate mattress shopping! After a couple of weeks of research, we settled on this particular mattress (in king size). Delivery was prompt and setup was painless. Open the box, follow the directions to carefully cut away the protective compression packaging and enjoy as your mattress takes shape in front of your eyes. We opened ours in the morning and slept on the mattress that night. It was a different experience at first and frankly couldn't decide whether we had made a good decision or bad. This mattress is really firm, especially if you put the Dreamaway Mattress Protector on it. We have used the mattress for a few months now and I think I'm finally getting used to it. I'm not an especially great sleeper any way, so it is hard for me to claim that I'm sleeping any better or any worse than before. Thankfully the lumps are gone :) and I can move around the bed at night without disturbing the Mrs. We had a really nice bed set, so I saved the box spring and frame and put the new memory foam mattress on top of that. Considering the price paid, ease of setup and pain free ordering / delivery process from Amazon I wouldn't say that I'm unhappy with the purchase. But for me it wasn't the paradigm shifting sleep experience that I was hoping for. One thing I want to stress is that this mattress is very firm, so if you're looking for a softer experience you should consider something else. We haven't slept on it in the summer yet, but so far the mattress temperature is comfortable. As for reports of chemical odors on memory foam mattresses....... this one was minor and gone before we went to sleep on it the first night.
This is an awesome bed! It takes a little getting used to, but once you are, it's great! Definitely recommend two people to unpackage and place the bed, though I did manage by myself, it wasn't the most comfortable experience. My previous foam bed had a lot of off-gassing. With this bed, unless you put your nose right in it, you really can't smell anything.
This is a really good quality mattress. After a year of use there is no dip or sag. Also the corners do not "bend" when you sit on them. I deducted a star because, at first the mattress was just too firm
for us. We were wondering if we had to return this.Luckily we tried a 2" topper from costco ($99) and that did the trick. Now we have a firm base with a plush top. Best of both worlds !
Love the mattress, quality product. I previously slept on a cheap mattress with a nice 4" memory foam pad that was fairly soft, so this is a little firm for me although i'm sleeping well on it. Why I gave it 4 stars is that the listing says medium/soft feel but its no where near soft. Its more medium/firm. I'm going to purchase the extra plush bamboo mattress pad just to soften up a bit because a slightly firm mattress is probably better for me anyway.
I read a lot of reviews before ordering this and I was very concerned about the potential odor from the foam. Thankfully even when I first cut open the bag it comes in there was no odor at all... literally no odor (even with face pressed against the foam). So I guess that pretty much takes care of that.
As for any crease from shipping, it seemed to disappear in about 15 minutes. I did follow the instructions and I even went above and beyond by leaving it sit for 2 days before I slept on it. I don't see or feel any creases or any indication that it was shipped folded.
As for the firmness, it is a bit firm and softens up as you lay on it. It took a week to get used to it but I am very pleased with it now.
I am so happy I didn't waste $3,000 - $5000 on a Tempurpedic at the furniture store. :)
Wish I would have bought one years ago. We both work midnights and when we finally get to crawl in and get situated " lights out " I don't even move. This matress is much cheaper than the pillow top we replaced. I'm going to replace our two childrens mattresses with these. I highly recommend them. No more back pain...that alone is worth it. Excellent product for the money. I don't overheat either, very rested when I wake up.
This mattress is comparable to the Famous Brand memory foam mattress I have used at a friends home. However, this cost half the price. The only drawback is finding bedding that fits the thickness of the mattress...
My other mattress was a spring with box frames. It was over 15 years old and sagging. I think I used it for way too long beyond its usefulness. I should have replaced it years ago. I think the old mattress ruined my back as well. I could not sleep soundly for any longer than 4 hours before my back would start hurting. Then I would just shift and turn the rest of the night. Needless to say I have not slept well in at least 6 months to a year, if not longer. My back only hurt when I would sleep so I could almost definitely attribute it to a deteriorating spring mattress. I decided to make the switch to a foam mattress to try something new. This mattress appears to be well constructed in the materials used and the mattress covering. It is a firm mattress for sure. I have had it for about a week and am still getting used to it. My back still gives me trouble at night but it is markedly better and improving. I think my back is just now resetting itself from years of terrible posture during sleep. The firmness was a concern because I am a side sleeper at times. I have found this mattress not to be an issue for me though. I went with this one because the reviews I saw said it was not as firm as the one with the gel-foam layer and the gel-foam layer one was not recommended by side-sleepers because it is firmer. This was a great purchase in my opinion. My wife likes it and I am getting used to it, and my sleep is improving. The other concern was the heat that some people had mentioned. I have found zero issues with heat transfer. I don't even notice it. The mattress expanded almost immediately after removing it from the bag and was ready in just a few hours really. We slept on it that night.
this is the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. i had previously purchased one in a full size so when I upgraded my living arrangements i got a king size. the mattress is firm but soft on top and very supportive. get deep pocket sheets for it. you wont be disappointed.
It did take me a long time to shop around to finally make the decision. I shopped for over a year for a new mattress and with my experience with my last mattress I needed to be sure before I spent so much money not to be satisfied. On my last purchase I spent over $2500.00 on a Seally posterpedic job. I thought I was shopping smart and purchased a close out model. I figured since I was shopping at a reputable dealer and purchased a product with excellent reputation I would be happy. I was far from that 6 months later, the mattress did not show any signs of wear. I was able to set a 8 foot level across the mattress with only about a 1/2" of variance across the surface which is with in specification. Even though the product was within the manufactures limits the product did not provide much support, I am 160 pounds at 5'9" and my wife is all of 110 pounds at 5'6". My point is we are physically fit active people and the product had us waking up multiple times through out the nigh and when we had to wake up we were often feeling tired and sore from sleeping on this product. We talked to the dealer to try to warranty the product, since the product was with in the specification and operating within the set of limitations set by the factory I was stuck with it. Well at $2500.00 at 6months old I was shocked that a product that seemed to be a great product at first was failing us so quickly. So with all that said I have had this new mattress for going on 3 weeks now and I must say it has alleviated all the complaints I have described about my previous mattress, I believe that it is too soon to effectively rate this product accurately with out seeing if I will have a problem because of having the previous product only 6 months and being so unhappy overall, having a mattress for 18 months and trying to get a replacement for a year I was happy to get a good night sleep. I did read all of the manufactures guidelines on how to care for it properly and they all are clear and reasonable to get the most out of it. This product sleeps comfortably in relation to temperature, on my conventional innerspring mattress I was a hot sleeper and was constantly throwing the covers off in the middle of the night then waking up freezing cold. With this product I reach my rem sleep very quickly and sleep all the way through the night waking up crisp and refreshed ready to conquer the day! This product supports me and I wake up with no pain or sore muscles. I have had friends that have purchased this same mattress and are still satisfied, I am truly hopping we have the same experience, a warranty doesn't mean a thing if the guidelines protect the manufacture. Not sure about this warranty by reading it I would have to say it may not be much of a warranty, In the event you want to make a claim you have to pay to ship and return ship to you so that they can inspect the product. This leaves me to only guess that if I had to request a warranty replacement it will not be an easy transaction.
I am in love. This is the best thing since sliced bread. My husband was not interested
In buying a mattress on line. It came there was no smell like some viewers mentioned.
It came early which was great. I am telling everyone what a great experience this was.
PS I have never written a review before.
Very comfortable. Came vacuum sealed and expanded to full size very quickly. Not too firm. Does seem to be a little warmer than other mattresses. Can't beat the price though. Make sure you buy extra deep fitted sheets to fit.
We really love this bed despite what everyone is saying here. Yes the bed is firm, but it's a cushiony firm.
Let me describe: the bed has great support. Coming from a nice expensive pillowtop spring bed, this bed is firm. Something that we were looking for after 5 years on that pillowtop. This bed has healed my bad back too!
Feels like sleeping on a Twinkie!!
Great value....comfortable...no-cons for me... It's amAzing that it was delivered in such a small box compared to the expanded size...just open the box , let it expand and air out....( smells like baking cookie crust ...for a few days; )
I carried it up 4 flights of stairs by myself...I sometimes carry my guitar amps (fender-tube) up and down ,,, so the 90+ lbs weight of the bed wasn't an issue... It's just bulky... I weigh over 200lbs and over 6'0 ft... Just to put things in perspective...so if you are out of shape ...pay someone to move it....once it expands.. It's much easier to move around... Just bulky...oh yeah... My place is hot all year long....haven't closest all my windows in 18 years .. The temperature of the bed is balanced... Not hot , not cold....
Even when it over 90 deg in the house...I don't know about durability , but time will tell....
its been a couple of weeks now.. i unboxed it and it unfolded in a couple of hours.. so i put sheets on and slept on it the first night.
I have been having soreness and stiffness for a while now from my former "innerspring" mattress.. and it was a very expensive one.. with 2000 coils etc. but my body was screaming at me every morning!!
So I thought i would give this mattress a try becasue there were so many good comments.
I love it! Yes, the first night it was firm, kinda scary.. but it softens up to you in little bit and then you dont feel "sunk" but I did feel supported. Its been a couple weeks now and I am going to put a 1 inch memory foam topper for a softer pillow top effect, but i do love the level of support and NO MOTION from your partner.. I am sometimes a restless sleeper, getting up and such, and my partner feels NOTHING. I will never go back to an innerspring mattress.. this mattress is the best i have ever had and it didnt break the budget.
Very happy with purchase. Bed is as described. I have slept well on this mattress from night 1. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new mattress. There was no smell and I slept on it 12 hours after opening.
This is our first memory foam mattress, and beyond what everyone else has said (positive), we are completely in love with this item. We replaced a sinkhole mattress (heh) with this, and the price was too good to pass up (I was in the process of ordering a queen when the web page refreshed and showed me the king mattress on sale for less than the queen!).
It IS a firm mattress, but only until your body starts to warm up the foam a bit, then you sink (but not too much!) slightly and suddenly it's heaven. Very impressed, considering it feels exactly the same as the $4500 Tempurpedic model I took a nap on in a local store.
Everyone will like a different mattress, but my advice is to give this a try. It might take a night or five to get completely used to it (bonus if you have a memory foam pillow to go with it!), but it is worth every penny and then some. You simply cannot put a price on a good night's sleep, no matter how cliche that saying is ;).
The adjustment from a spring based mattress to memory foam took some getting used to (more so for the kids, who were perplexed when jumping on it didn't provide the same gleeful launch)...but, 3 months in and the wife and I love this mattress. Price point was hard to beat and we haven't seen any issues with the mattress losing its shape. Very pleased.
Wanted to try a memory foam mattress but didn't like the high price of the name brand sold in most retail stores. Found this online for considerably less and opted for the slight cost increase of the 14in version. Totally happy with this mattress! Slight smell from gases of foam a couple of days that has dissipated and nothing but a great nights sleep for me and my wife!
Firm but very comfortable. Its been a week and we have both slept well for a change. Bed arrived on time and was easy to unpack and set up. Others have stated you have to wait 72 hours after you unpack this to sleep on it, I think it was about 5 hours for us and everything was perfectly fine. I would not hesitate to buy this again.
Love this from the very first night. The only problem is you have to stay clear from the edge as it sinks a little. So thick. We could have bought the less thick as this is a solid mattress - extremely comfortable and firm support.
I have shoulder and back problems. The bed has been good for my back, but terrible for my shoulders. My wife loves the bed so I give it four stars.
I really like this mattress. It is firm and at first I figured perhaps it may be a little to firm for my body. I felt this way for the past 8 months of owning it (even though I've been sleeping fine the whole time) until I went on vacation with my girlfriend to Atlantic City. After staying in a hotel on a softer bed I could definitely feel a difference when waking up. I;m only 31 years old but I could tell my joints were a bet more stiff than I had gotten used to. Overall even though I never owned the cheaper version of this be I'm still very satisfied with my purchase.
WAY too firm. Ended up with neck and back pain.
I've waited 6 months to write a review because I really wanted to have some good perspective. I tend to like a soft mattress and fall asleep best on my side. The first few months were rough; this is a firm mattress and I woke up in pain when I slept on my side, still do. This thing gets even firmer when the temp drops and living in an attic in VT the temp gets into the low 60s at night. With all that said, this is the best mattress I've ever had and look forward to every night's sleep. My wife likes a firmer mattress and had lots of hip pain from our old bed and now she has none. This mattress is best for back sleepers and I have learned to appreciate that and a firmer mattress. I love how it conforms to my body and I'm not disturbed when my night owl wife or restless dog move around. Well worth the money and it should soften up a little over the years. Is not hot at all like some reviews say, but if you need a soft bed look elsewhere or go to a store where you can try it out first.
I've had this mattress for about 10 months now and am fairly pleased with it. It was easy to deploy (impressive to watch once you open the bag). Make sure you have it arranged properly before cutting the bag open. Though a little heavy I was able to deploy my king size mattress alone. It did smell a little for a couple of days but was not intolerable. The price is pretty good and I'm pleased I bought it. I've recommended it to family and friends. I'd actually like it a little firmer but some seem to think it is pretty firm. My only complaint, common to all memory foam mattresses, is that I can't move very well on it. I'm used to my old mattress having a grippable edge to help me adjust but this one has a soft edge with nothing to easily grip. Still pretty pleased with it though. Recommended.
I cannot say enough about this mattress. I had a crappy innerspring that made my neck and back hurt, and I was constantly tossing and turning. I had looked at memory foam mattresses in person and decided that was the way I wanted to go, but thousands of dollars, really? Surely there must be a more economical alternative. My budget was $1000 for a queen mattress. I wanted something less firm, but not too soft. I came across this line and this 14-inch memory foam mattress was the softest of the bunch. And for $600? Ordered! 2 days later I was sleeping like a baby. No more back pain, no more neck pain, no more waking up 10 times every night.
The mattress had no smell right out of the box. The only cons I can think of are that it's extremely heavy and it might be too warm for some people. But I'd buy this mattress over and over again anyway.
As others have said, this mattress is very firm. It will get softer after 24-48 hours, but having tried many memory foam mattresses of this type, it is quite firm. I agree with the description that this mattress is ideal for side sleepers and provides ample support.
Quite a bit stiffer than one would expect from a mattress categorized as "soft-medium", but we shall see if it softens up as time goes on. We had to buy an additional pillow-top cover in order to make this mattress tolerable. It does not get too hot or cold and offers excellent support, but it is stiff unless you are a heavier person. Still seems to be of good quality construction and time will tell how it holds up - will try to return in a year to update.
I add my opinion to the thousands. With a bad neck from a 1982 motorcycle accident, I slept on a bed made from a plywood deck with 4 inches of ordinary upholstery foam for the last 34 years. Extra firm, like the floor. I am a side sleeper, and after passing 55 some time ago, I developed arthritis in my hips, among other places. I had the ultimate surgical repair of my neck in 2010, so my neck no longer required a hard bed with precise pillows. My wife and I slept on the Alden last night, fell asleep immediately, and were reluctant to get out of it in the morning. It was blissful. I got a name brand mattress cover that supposedly provides cool comfort. The mattress seems warmer than 4 inches of foam, but not unpleasantly warm. Use a lighter blanket, or during the winter, set thermostat to 60. I read many of the reviews, including the negatives saying this is too firm. A carpeted floor should be used as a measure of hardness (1) and a sack of goose feathers as soft (10). This mattress would be a 4. Most importantly, it relieved the pressure on my hips for a pain free night. If I did not have a few more years of work, I would spend 12 hours/day in this bed.
This mattress replaced a memory foam mattress that we had purchased 7 years ago from a different online vendor. I researched the highest rated mattresses. (Consumer reviews do help, so please share yours, regardless of your experience.) I learned who the best manufacturers are and how long one can reasonably expect these to last (about half their stated warranty, sometimes less). This was one of two brands that we considered, the other was not in stock and we needed a new mattress, STAT.
Shipping was fast, cost was reasonable, and my back is much improved. If you haven't slept on a memory foam mattress, it's difficult to describe "firm but forgiving." Lots of support, but support that feels like it's made just for you.
This is my 2nd Sleep Innovation mattress from Amazon, the first one was a 12 inch firm. this is a 14 inch med-firm. I absolutely love them. I would recommend the med-firm for people weight under 170lbs.
I purchased this mattress after having been really unhappy with the rock hard firmness of the Sleep Innovations Taylor mattress.
This Alden mattress is described as being medium/soft. There is really nothing soft about this mattress. It is medium/firm, at best. But, I like a firm mattress and this mattress is firm but VERY comfortable. This is a very good deal for a mattress, there's no need to spend thousands on a highly marketed brand.
I will update this as necessary as time goes on.
The box is a bit of a pain to move (roughly 20"x20"x40" and 100 pounds). Once I got it in place, there have been absolutely no issues. Cutting off the shrink wrapping was no problem at all, and it was actually kind of neat to see the item return to its intended shape once out of the shrink wrap. When I cut the first layer of shrink wrap off, it almost sounded like the mattress took a breath.
I had read reviews that mentioned an odor issue at first, but there was no odor on mine even immediately out of the box.
The mattress looked like it was back to its usual shape within an hour, but the material that comes with it says it might take a few days.
Also, this is a fabulously comfortable mattress. For me, it is firm but not so firm that it feels like you are sleeping on a board.
I would highly recommend this product, and I might be purchasing another for my guest bedroom.
