I waited a few months after receiving the couch before reviewing, to see how it loved. This is a PHENOMENAL couch - incredibly comfortable, durable, well made and we love our fabric selection. We got an unusual size sectional due to a narrow and long room, and we are thrilled with our purchase. Customer service was impeccable, the sectional was made and delivered on schedule. Nothing but rave reviews over here.
I've had my sofa for almost a month, and I'm thrilled with it. I found my way to BenchMade Modern because it had a beautiful green velvet. The other vendors had shades of gray and neutral. I ordered the swatch and it went really well with a color in my oriental rug. I also ordered a template so I could see how it fit in my living room. Once I bought the sofa, the delivery company contacted me via email and text to schedule the delivery, and worked with me to get an insurance certificate for my building. I got the white glove service and the delivery people unwrapped the sofa and put it together. Everyone who's seen the sofa loves it. The only thing I wish I had was a custom made pad of the same velvet, for my cat to lie on.
I was SO nervous ordering a sofa online but in the end, BMM made it so easy for us between the blueprint and the free swatches it was almost fool proof! It’s exactly what we wanted the pet proof fabric is high quality and my golden retriever can sit with us on darker grey without leaving a pile of fur! It is SO cozy, fits our whole family for snuggles (we got the extra deep) and it seems like it will hold up forever! From the beginning, it was so convenient to request fabric samples and then make the couch exactly what we wanted it to be. When it arrived, it was perfect! We love the color, feel, and look, and it's amazingly comfortable. It is 100% nap approved. We've had it just over a month and still loving it!

I was very nervous about purchasing on-line without site and sit unseen. But fell in love with the Skinny Fat style and color; so decided to go for it. So glad I did. My husband and I were quite nervous about ordering a couch sight unseen, but we really liked two things about Benchmade: 1. They're made in the USA 2. We could customize the dimensions down to a T We took the plunge and ordered a couch with an extra oversized ottoman. Once the couch arrived, my husband specifically commented on the quality construction. The legs/supports are bolted, which will make disassembling the couch a breeze if we ever move someday. We also really like that the sectional components are attached via a very secure metal bracket, which mean that Benchmade's sectional pieces don't slide apart like our old couch did. 6 months after receiving our couch, we could not be happier with the experience and quality! Our couch is now our favorite spot in our entire home.
The Tyler ottoman pairs perfectly with our Tyler sectional. We loved being able to customize the size of our Tyler ottoman. It is now one of my husband's favorite spots to relax after a long day at work. Thank you Benchmade!
Bought my Uncle Sal sofa in May and it has held up well after 5+ months of frequent use. It's deep enough to be comfy without making me feel like a toddler with feet not touching the ground. It's medium-firm and has held its shape well. The arms are low so you don't feel boxed in, and taller people can have their legs hang out over the arms. Looking to complete the set with the ottoman soon.
A well designed, well made couch. The customer service was responsive, and after having troubles with the delivery company, a responsive customer service was essential. The comfort is fantastic: firm, but cozy. The upholstery and stuffing and stitching and legs, all solid build. A fantastic piece to last a lifetime.

So we got the OG Couch Potato sectional, double chaise, with the luxe filling. It is….amazing. Every time my dad comes to visit he explicitly says “I need to go upstairs and lay on that couch first”, my sister has eagerly slept on it, I’ve also napped on it. It’s no joke! It’s a seriously comfy couch! To business. It’s pretty light weight for what you’d actually expect. It wasn’t insanely difficult (or scary) to carry the sections upstairs. Once it is fit together, it really stays put. We’ve had our couch for a few months now and haven’t had it separate or lose fluffiness. So far, the couch still feels new. The aforementioned fluffiness? This couch is a cloud. We haven’t needed to fluff it or anything. It’s very cushy, but not *too* cushy. You sink down into it but you’re not falling between the cushions and you don’t have to wiggle around to get back up. Instead, the trillium filling feels almost downy. It’s very luxurious. The couch is currently in our TV/playroom. It’s been spilled on by our kids and ya can’t even tell. We went with the Charles Spruce performance fabric. It seems to hold up! It’s softer that I thought it would be. I was expecting a rougher basket weave. This is still a basket weave but the texture is a microfiber, soft feel. All around worth it. I’m so happy with this couch and don’t doubt it’s going to last years, decades.

It is a very comfortable sofa. It was delivered slightly later than I was told up front, but given the circumstances in May=June of this year (when many other things were taking months to come, at best) the sofa was made and transferred to the delivery company almost on time. The delivery company took a little longer than expected, but they were skillful and efficient when they came. I worried about the fabric, since the samples were so small, but it it wonderful, soft and pleasant to the touch, but sturdy. The cushions are delightfully soft and welcoming, but still supportive and stay pretty neat. When the sofa was put in place next to a smaller sofa we have had for years, I thought we had made a big mistake because the scale difference seemed totally wrong. After thinking about it, we ordered another set of legs, two inches shorter. The new sofa is now about the same height in seat and arms. That has made all the difference. The new legs were custom made by Benchmade. They were not prohibitively expensive and we had them in a couple of weeks. Just one more example of excellent customer service we had from this company.
This is a high quality piece in fit and finish, well worth the expenditure. The White Glove delivery service was excellent. Due to supply chain issues because of the pandemic, lead times are long. Be prepared to wait but well worth it.
The catwalk sofa looks great in our living room. The grey performance fabric is superb and is exactly the color we wanted, not too dark. It's unusual to have a new piece of furniture that is comfortable from the start. Customer service was outstanding and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from Benchmade Modern again.

Loved it! The cushions took some wearing in at first, but it's a great looking and comfy sofa. The leg on the ottoman was a little wonky after delivery, but Benchmade Modern was quick to connect us with a repair person at no cost to us. The white glove delivery was also fantastic!
We'd read great reviews online, but were still shocked at just how well-made, comfortable, and beautiful this frame is. It's the perfect height, the color is gorgeous (we picked Glee Taupe, which you'd think is a pretty plain, boring color, but it's actually quite rich and lovely). Not to mention ordering was a breeze, and the customer service is top-notch (I had made a mistake in the Delivery Level, and customer service was able to fix it for me quickly and easily, even past the cutoff date).
We love our new Uncle Sal couch! It fits perfectly into our new family room space and is super comfy for lounging, reading, watching tv, and yes, lots of naps. The wynwood lagoon color is gorgeous and the workmanship is beyond top notch. This couch is worth every penny! In fact, we love it so much that we’re about to purchase a matching ottoman.

Such an excellent sofa! It took us a while to decide with all the fabric swatches and size options, but we have a perfect sectional that fits in our living room like a glove. It's comfortable and, while new, seems not to show signs of wear quickly.

I specifically went with the Catwalk Sofa with Chaise because it was one of the firmer options, and I really appreciate the cushions maintaining their shape relatively well for the past six weeks or so. I also just generally don't like sinking into a sofa, and the Catwalk gives support in that regard as well. The lines of it also look really nice next to the bar cart and C-table besides which it sits! Went with the Wynwood Lagoon fabric to breathe a bit of color into my "white box" looking condo and I'm glad I did, it's lovely to look at.
Ordered sofa on line selecting material and color from samples sent to us. Color and material size and depth perfect but delivery to condo only ok. So ordered two ottomans delivery again a bit of an issue but I am hopeful it will work out. Going to order two more sofas for other house.

Very high quality, attractive and comfortable piece of furniture. I chose this sofa bed because of my room's space restrictions and it fits as planned. The bed is supposed to be full sized but a full size fitted sheet doesn't quite fit around it

We love our benchmade modern OG Couch Potato Sectional. We got an L with uneven sides to fit in our family room. It's a tank of a couch, so substantial. The pillows are heavy and durable. It's comfortable and not too low. We were worried about it being too low. Looking forward to how this holds up against our kids over time but it's all very high quality and well made and has held up to them so far. I'd recommend this company and couch to anyone.

Beautifully made, upgraded cushions are luxe and comfortable. That said, the cushions are so full the overall height of the sofa is a bit high and the "short length" of the loveseats make them look too high. Having the legs shortened locally.
I was chair shopping for some time for a mid-century style chair when I came across Benchmade and the Bruno chair. It hit the retro notes I like and blended it with some modern flair that made for a beautiful piece of furniture. It was more expensive than I originally planned but given the fabric options that arrived really fast, being made in the USA, and their quality assurance, I opted for something better. It came way faster than any other retailer I’ve bought from recently too. Very happy with the craftsmanship, style and comfort of this chair.

We chose the couch potato ottoman to go with our new couch instead of getting the chaise option so we could use it in different ways. It is perfect for when you want to stretch out and take a nap, for the dog to sleep on, or for extra seating when others come to visit.

I ordered the Catwalk sofa and loveseat in Ponti Brown leather for my family room. They are well built and extremely comfortable for everyday use. The leather is soft and supple, but holds it shape. I’m a designer and can say without a doubt, that it there is not another manufacturer within this price point that even comes close to BenchMade Modern quality. Plus they are custom made with a very short lead-time. This is my number one recommendation to all of my clients.

This really is as fabulous a sofa bed as it is a sofa! It lives in my home office and guest room, and I love the plush, firm feel of the cushions as an alternative to working at my desk. The mattress really feels luxe for a sofa bed as well. The ordering process and customer service was fantastic, from requesting a few factory photos of similar finished pieces or fabric types to gaming out how to get it through my narrow guest room door (29” wide... it fit!). I can’t wait until I have another opportunity to order from Benchmade Modern. My living room sofa is already getting jealous...

Great looks and solid construction
Really happy with our two chairs. We ordered two in Charles Carrot to go with a Crowd Pleaser sectional in Charles Blue. The two colors go really well together. The chairs are a perfect combo of modern comfort and mid century style. The Foam and Trillium package is super cushy and well worth the upgrade.
We really love the style and look of the couch. Has mid-century touches but modern, which really fits in well with our overall living room. We chose Charles Navy for the couch, and Charles Carrot for the two chairs and they go really well for each other. Both are Performance Fabric and our dogs hair will just float off of it super easy. I was really impressed on how well they are built, super solid. They also arrived almost fully assembled and I was able to unpackage and set up quickly. I would definitely buy again, as these are centerpiece items of our house.

In spite of a global pandemic, customer support was top notch, and the sofa arrived within the estimated timeframe! I love how customizable this sofa was, and am thrilled with a final product that fits perfectly in our awkward space. In spite of poring over the fabric samples for days and requesting / receiving photos of other custom pieces upholstered in various fabrics, I do have some regrets about our final choice (100% my fault). I'm unsure whether larger fabric swatches are available, but if not, that might be something Benchmade could consider in the future (picturing our selection over the surface area of such a large piece of furniture was really tough, and a larger sample might have helped). Otherwise, the piece feels incredibly sturdy (much more so than any West Elm or Pottery Barn sofa I've owned in the past) and am looking forward to enjoying it for years to come!

We have a cat, and he hasn't scratched it up in the first month, so we would recommend this as a cat-friendly furniture solution with the right leather type. Quality build as far as eye/touch tests is concerned. Would've been nice to include a leather care guide or some additional information on how we can take care of the furniture.
I absolutely love my couch! Even though I get ridiculed for buying an off-white couch, it is super easy to clean when accidents do happen. The quality is clearly high and every thing from the design and communication with customer service was too notch. I will admit it was expensive but I feel confident that my couch will last and all questions answered by benchmade. Highly recommend!

I love our new sofa. I didn't know what to expect, and frankly I was nervous buying a comfort-centric piece online without a chance to feel it in advance. I was thrilled the day it came, and remain thrilled with it now after breaking it in for a couple of months. The Performance Fabric feels soft and thick, it's easy to clean dog prints off with a wet cloth, and the surprisingly heavy cushions are remarkably soft and firm at the same time -- you kind of sink in cozy but feel supported.

It’s scary ordering big-ticket furniture online, but BenchMade Modern made it as easy as possible - the fabric samples were helpful, and the life-sized free cutout of our planned couch alleviated some stress about screwing it up. Love that it’s made ethically, and doesn’t have noxious flame-retardant chemicals sprayed onto it. The delivery was contact free (great to see in COVID times), and set up was intuitive and easy - they’ve thought of everything with this sofa. The cushions are comfortable and substantial, the upholstery well-sewn and neat, and the thing is real comfortable. Happy to support this company moving forward!
Product looks great and pre and post-sales service was extremely responsive and helpful (and delivery estimate was spot-on). Final delivery company wasn't very professional or careful with the product. Fortunately it was packaged well so the abuse doesn't seem to have caused any damage.

We just built an apartment over our garage (an ADU or additional dwelling unit) and needed the perfect sofa to fit in the modern, small space (650 sq feet). Thanks to the pandemic, we couldn't go to showrooms or see any sofas in person, so I had to do all of my research remotely. I narrowed it down to 3 companies and in the end we went with Bench Made Modern based on their flexibility in size, their wide range of fabrics and leathers and the styles available. We ended up getting the standard depth, skinny fat sofa at 103" in Marfa Caramel leather and a matching ottoman. Due to the pandemic (and the fact that we switched leather colors) it took awhile to get the sofa, BUT it was totally worth the wait! The delivery guys were awesome (we paid for the white glove service)- it was super tricky to get the sofa through the front door and they patiently removed the legs and then some of the furniture in our ADU to make enough room to get the sofa through the door. They then reassembled the sofa, put back the furniture and cleaned up all the boxes. We LOVE the sofa. At first it seemed too firm, but it's warn in nicely and fits the 3 of us with room to spare. It's super cosy to sit or nap on and it looks beautiful in the room. If ever we need another sofa I am totally purchasing from Bench Made Modern again.

I could not be happier with the process of buying our sofas through Benchmade Modern or with the sofas themselves. First of all the company is located in the USA which I think is wonderful. The communication from the second I placed my order until the sofas were on my doorstep was unbelievable. I received an email update each week letting me know where the sofas were at in the building/shipping process. I received my custom made sofas in three weeks from the date that I ordered them. I love that I was able to pick the length of the sofas so that they would fit perfectly in my room. I had looked into other companies before finding Benchmade and it was going to take 6 months to get my sofas!! When the sofas arrived they were delivered by a very professional crew and were packaged very securely. The leather is beautiful, the craftsmanship is second to none. I could not be happier with how they turned out!!
This skinny fat sectional is more than I could ever ask for! It’s supportive, yet comfortable; it’s modern, yet timeless. It was fun picking fabrics and measuring out sizes. It’s brought our family together more than our previous living room set. The customer service team is the absolute best—fast, informative, and personable!
We found out about BenchMade Modern from Wirecutter and the review there was spot on. Their customer service was excellent—I had a question about the dimensions of the legs of the sofa, called them up and got an answer in five minutes. My husband and I had to do the Very Adult Thing of buying a sofa for our first house and did not know where to begin. Wirecutter praised Benchmade Modern and had never steered us wrong before. Benchmade was the only retailer we could find offering delivery within 2 months rather than 6+, and I loved how easy it was to make all your customizations on the website. Our MCM sofa showed up on schedule and was very easy to assemble. It's sturdy, stylish and comfortable. We went with foam back cushions which start out stiff but after a week or so are already comfortably 'broken in'. The seat cushions are the perfect softness, while sitll retaining shape. The whole sofa-buying experience was easy, transparent and quick which I doubt is common. We love our sofa, worth every penny. Thank you Benchmade!

We just got our bench made couch and i am now officially a couch snob! the cushions were so plush and comfy, the fit and finish are top notch and we love it so much, we decided to replace another couch in our house!
I bought two leather couch potato sofas - one very big (both long and wide) and the other loveseat-sized. The first thing I noticed was how sturdy and solid they were. We occasionally have 3 adults on the larger one and I don’t feel it wobbling or straining like our previous couches did.So far the Ponti leather has resisted a coffee spill and many circles by our dog (before she plops down). I have no worries that the material will stain or scratch. My only complaint is the $300 fee for having the couches brought into the house and set up (white glove delivery). It would have been very difficult to bring the big one in ourselves and I’m glad we added this extra, but the fee seems way too high and should have been included when I bought two couches that are this expensive.
I am more than happy with the sofa! Ordered in McGee Flint color with espresso legs. It is well made, looks beautiful and it’s super comfortable. Will order more from this collection.

This is seriously the most comfortable couch I’ve ever sat on! The weight of the cushions are no joke and it’s so comfortable to lounge on. The sales team was super helpful. I originally ordered the wrong model and they helped me resolve it and even made suggestions on how to better utilize pieces. Overall great experience!!! I’m waiting for their next sale to order a chaise for my bedroom. You will not be disappointed!!

This has been a challenging year for all. I was delighted to receive my beautiful, comfortable, clearly well-made chair and ottoman. The perfect perch to read, relax and even work from home (w/ a lap desk). Highly recommend. The fabric swatches allowed me to pick exactly the right fabrics to complement my other furniture too!
The Tyler sofa with chaise is absolutely wonderful. It's firm without feeling hard -- there is just enough give when you sit down. We paired it with one of the shepherd fabrics to also give the fabric a soft feel. It's well built and the cushions stay put as you sit or lay down.

Not only do we love the sectional and the fact that we could customize the length of both sides to fit our room perfectly, but it shipped in record time. I'm not sure a non-custom couch from any retailer could have arrived in the same amount of time! (Bonus, the huge boxes made for some super forts for our kids during these crazy locked-in times). The couch is super comfortable, and locks together securely. Highly recommend.
We ordered the Skinny Fat U shaped Bumper sofa in a soft brown leather...and We’re absolutely thrilled with it! It’s exactly what was promised. I’ll admit, it was a bit nerve wracking to order a significant piece of furniture (that you sit on) online...but with the help of the descriptions, reviews, and a couple of questions answered (promptly and throughly) by customer service, we decided to pull the trigger on it, and we’re so happy we did. It’s not too soft (swishy and sink in too much), but not too firm (there’s enough give) to make it perfectly comfortable. So the medium support was accurate. The quality of the leather is high and accurate to the sample we received as well. We ordered all the samples and that was great. We actually considered a few fabrics we never would have thought of because we had such a wide variety to go through. Again...we love it! It was worth it in every way. *important tip....measure, measure, measure!
At first we were a little skeptical about ordering a custom made sectional without having sat in it. But our expectations were greatly surpassed. The frame, upholstery and finish of our Skinny Fat Sectional with bumper are expectional. we couldn’t be more pleased!

I just received this couch. My initial impression is that this is quality construction, durable leather, super comfortable sofa. fits perfect. only time will tell, but initially very impressed.
The short review...we’re in love. The long one...we were anxious, nervous and on edge about ordering a custom sofa online without first sitting on it or running our hands along the back or cushions with the fabric we chose. Be we need not have worried. We love it! Granted, we didn’t make this purchase frivolously! We checked out other sites, ordered the full box of fabric samples, measured out the couch dimensions on our floor with duct tape to make sure it would fit...and kept “challenging” the Skinny Fat Style against a few others in the line, before finally pulling the trigger. And...we probably reached out to (annoyingly) Customer Service with questions about timing, delivery and payment until we were comfortable enough in the company to make this investment with them. And we love it. We love the quality. The style. The feel. The look. OMG, who knew you could love a sofa. So yes...we’re giving this a five star rating (which I’m always hesitant to do), because it is well deserved. Thank you Bench Made Modern. We love our sofa!

The sofa looks and feels terrific. I am very pleased with it. The material and color are exactly what I wanted. I opted for the white glove delivery which was overkill. 10 minutes from the truck to my living room floor. It could not have been easier. Suggestions: Removable sofa covers (cushions/armrests for easy cleaning) An option for 1 full length cushion instead of 3 separate (no one has to sit in a divot, kids and pets cannot bury “treasure” between cushions

We love our new sofa . . . it's always a bit risky when you can't test-drive before making such a big purchase, but we have absolutely no regrets. High quality construction, super comfortable, looks fantastic and delivered promptly. Only improvement is that I wish the package included an Allen wrench that is needed for the (easy) assembly - was a bit annoying to have to search for the one that fit just right.

I am simply in love with my new BMM sofa! The ordering process was great fun, using the box of fabric swatches and the full-size paper cut-out. Loved that I could customize "to the inch" so that I now have a piece made for my exact space. Customer service was great, and I so appreciated the update emails as my sofa was traveling through the process (carpentry, upholstery, etc.). And let's talk comfort....my Crowd Pleaser With Chaise is simply perfect! Supportive yet cushy in the right places. The back cushions are amazing! I ordered an MCM loveseat for my office and it fits perfectly. The color (Charles Spruce) looks great! It is also very comfortable and tall, which fits my height.

We absolutely love everything we have purchased from Bench Modern. We recently purchased a sofa bed and have never sat in and slept in a more comfortable sofa and sofa bed. We are ordering a second one for the guest room.
This sofa is amazing - BMM cracked the design code for modern style + high quality + comfort! The Skinny Fat sectional is a substantial piece of furniture without looking chunky or frumpy. The modern lines, beautiful fabric and gorgeous tapered legs keep it looking sophisticated and upmarket. Lounging on this sofa feels like a dream! The cushions offer plenty of support while also giving that plush, sitting-on-a-cloud feeling. The cushions are heavy and well constructed (no cheap foam here!), and since they are finished on both sides you can easily flip them to fluff & reshape as needed. Me, my husband and children love piling on for family movie nights - there is plenty of room to snuggle and relax (although we all fight for “the nook” - the cozy corner section!)
Slim, modern silhouette looks great in any room with any linens. I got mine custom made to fit under my windows. Great customer service too.

This is the most comfortable sofa and sofa bed that I have ever sat on and slept in.
Since we weren't going to be able to travel this year, we decided to upgrade our living room. We went with a nice denim color that is holding up nicely against 2 toddlers and 2 cats so far. Customer service was very helpful in confirming that the clearance in our home was large enough for the extra long sofa we purchased and kept us up to date on the status of our order (no small feat considering the state of the world in 2020). And the sofa is extremely comfortable and looks great.

I love my Home Sweet Home Sectional. Because I was able to customize the size of the sectional, it’s the perfect fit for my family room. We have a small living room and needed a sofa with minimal depth to maximize floor area. There aren't many sofa options to be found anywhere around 32" deep! Our fear was it wasn't going to be comfy. Thankfully, this is one of the most comfortable sofas I've sat on. All areas, even leaning into the top of the back and the arms, are wonderfully padded, a good mix of firm and soft. The seat area feels perfectly deep as well! My parents both took a nap on it this past weekend so it passes the test ;) We opted for a sectional with bumper and dialed in the right size and color to fit the room. Process was very easy. Shipping was faster than promised. Super happy with the fit, finish, and comfort of the sofa. Assembly instructions could be improved slightly by detailing exactly what wrench size is needed (or, better yet, include a wrench) and that an electric drill is needed to install the screws for the legs.
Quality, Quality, Quality ! Also, it looks BADA$$ ! Will order again someday for sure !!

I was just emailed this review request to review my purchase and I don’t yet have it. A $3,000 couch and I have no clue where it is. I’ve had to prompt each communication (request update on status, etc). Hopefully we receive the couch soon and I’ll update my review to reflect the actual product but thus far, communication frankly sucks.
Can’t recommend Bench Made Modern enough. The loveseat is the crown jewel of my living room (never thought I’d say that about a loveseat but here we are). It’s so sleek and modern, yet not overly so, and of course ridiculously comfortable. It was an investment but I’m really getting uncomfortable with the fast-fashion version of furniture offered by a lot of bigger retailers, so I went with BenchMade modern and I’m so glad I did. It really seems built to last. The customer service was also excellent.
The cushions are very comfy without being too slouchy. It’s great how they can be flipped in case of stains. I love how the arms have separate cushions because you can lean on them without feeling the frame. Ordering swatches helped us select exactly the right color. White glove delivery wasn’t available when we ordered, but it would have been worth it because the sofa was extremely well packed and it was challenging to unbox and dispose of the box ourselves.
The shipping package was well padded and prepared. The leather is so soft and smooth. I wished I had known that his company years before.

We ordered a custom OG Potato Bed in gray leather. Communication from Benchmade was great, and it was made and shipped more quickly than we anticipated. The bed itself is beautifully made. We are very impressed with both quality and service, and will definitely order from Benchmade Modern again.
This couch is incredibly soft, cozy, and comfortable. The deep seats make it the perfect lounging/relaxation couch. It has a modern and sleek look and the quality is extremely high. Additionally, the customer service is awesome from answering questions about the fabrics and sending swatches quickly to making sure the delivery goes as smoothly as possible. We're very happy with our Tyler sofa so far. The styling is exactly what we were looking for, and BenchMade Modern's construction techniques should make for a long-lasting piece of furniture. It's fairly new to us, and we've barely used it yet due to a busy schedule, so I can't comment on the durability yet.
I did the research and couldn’t be happier! I wanted a sofa made in the USA, hand constructed with good fabric choices and a time-spanning style that would suit our needs...found! All who sit in it are astounded by the comfort. I’m a 5’6”, 60+-year old architectural designer who’s very fussy. The seat cushions have just enough ‘give’ without that sinking feeling and is easy to get up from; back cushions are surprisingly dense and supportive; styling is forward and classic at the same time and the persimmon velvet is divine!! The one glitch (probably due to Covid) was a disappointing delivery. Was never notified ahead of delivery day! It turned out OK, but be sure to keep checking in with BMM as time approaches for delivery. It could have been a very unfortunate incident. Otherwise, excellent communication.
The MCM sofa was my second purchase from BMM. The process of ordering was great - being able to spec the sofa's length was ideal as I wanted to fill a specific space, and for the sofa to be long enough to fit taller friends as it doubles as a guest bed from time to time. The team at BMM followed up after I ordered online, and answered all of my Qs quickly. Production and delivery happened as they said it would, and it arrived very well packaged. Once in place, we were extremely happy with the leather we chose, and love the single cushion design of the MCM. One thoughtful touch that we did not expect was the addition of zippers on the back of the back pillows and velcro on the seat cushion that keep things in place. Overall it's extremely well made, comfortable and great looking. All in all a great outcome and experience for us!
There are two things that I like most about this face mask: one is it covers my nose really well and the other is that it is made of a thicker material than most masks I have seen. I took a chance and bought two and I am glad to say I am happy with them.

Our sectional sofa and loveseat were delayed due to COVID-19 factory restrictions, but the Benchmade Modern customer service team was always responsive and professional. Now the that furniture is here, we can certainly say that it was worth the wait. Very well made and super comfortable. We went with the extra deep seating, which we don't regret!

EXACTLY what we were hoping for. I scoured the internet for months looking for the perfect couch and finally decided on the OG. The couch is extremely comfortable and it arrived before the expected ship date. The couch's height is lower than I anticipated (my fault), but we just ordered larger back pillows and expect this will add a bit.more.back support. Finally, Benchmade customer service was outstanding- very responsive and friendly (special shutout to Katie who was fantastic).
We'd been shopping for a sofabed for our basement in a half-hearted sort of way for a couple of years, half-hearted for a few reasons: We weren't sure if we could fit a sofa down the stairs, didn't think the bed part of a sofabed would be as comfortable as our Aerobed, didn't particularly want to spend the money. My wife found BenchmadeModern through Wirecutter, we visited the site, loved the styles, and clicked the link to ask the owner, Edgar, about fitting a couch down the stairs. He sent a video reply with preliminary thoughts and directed us to Lisa in customer service. Fast forward 6 months and the couch is now happily in our basement. The process hasn't been flawless. There have been delays due to COVID and the couch got a couple of nicks en route to us, but the customer service has been exceptional and everything to-date has been resolved promptly and without any push-back. The couch itself is delightful: very comfortable and looks great. We haven't slept on it yet but based on a few minutes laying on it, it's much more substantial and bed-like than sofabeds we've experienced in the past. We couldn't be happier but admittedly, it's only been a week since arrival. :-)

Purchased this sectional in Zelda Coin with the help of a 20% discount and it is exactly what I was hoping for; a modern looking sectional in a pretty neutral grey that is well constructed and comfy. Customer service kept me updated on my order and delivery was easy to set up.
I will begin by saying I am a former designer and took a chance by ordering from this company as I hadn’t heard of them before finding them online. The Tyler is a perfect sofa. Designed incredibly well, while not being over designed and was exactly what I was looking for. Construction is solid with attention to detail. I would highly recommend Benchmade Modern. Their customer service was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Beautiful quality fabrics with a reasonable timeline for delivery. The entire experience was wonderful! I’ve purchased custom sofas before and their prices are competitive. Don’t hesitate to purchase from them.
I love them both! They are beautifully made, with great attention to detail, and work perfectly in my living room. The sofa is very comfortable. Also, I received it as scheduled, had great customer service, and even the delivery drivers couldn’t have been any nicer or accomodating. I highly recommend .
The sofa is well made and process was good. My only wish is having pictures with people sitting on it. I did get customization with 19” pillows but it is shorter than we like. However the sofa is high quality and comfortable.
Of course we were apprehensive about ordering a sectional online without sitting on it, but the detailed information about sizing, being able to custom order down to the inch, and the free fabric swatches made the process painless. Not to mention the free paper template to double check our measurements. We are in love with our couch. Our family of 4 can all sit together which is the reason we went for it. My only complaint is the pricing of the ottomans - we opted not to get one because $1300 for the matching ottoman is more than a bit rich (and oddly out of line with the couch pricing).

I bought two Skinny Fat Sectionals and was worried about making such a big purchase, sight-unseen. I needn't have worried -- the sofas are good quality and comfortable.
The possibility to choose the exact size of the sofa is why we decided to buy here, even though it was a little more expensive, and it did not disappoint us. Very comfortable and it looks great in our living room. Everything seems really high quality, we'll see how it supports daily use. Our order was delayed because the fabric we chose was backordered but Benchmade Modern was very communicative. Delivery went without issue.

We love our new couch!! It looks beautiful and is so well made. We selected a high performance fabric (keen slate) and are so happy with our choice. The couch is very comfortable and seats a lot of people. The cushions sit you up rather high and there is no rest for your neck if sitting straight up. I’m hoping that after some time, we will break in some of the cushioning. You have to slouch down into the couch to rest your neck. The only change I would have made is to select the deeper couch setting rather then the standard. I think it would have made it even more comfortable and we have the room to do it. Without trying out the couch first, that was a hard call to make. Would definitely recommend this company to everyone. I believe we ordered and received the couch within a month and a half’s time. The delivery people said they’d never seen a couch be so well packaged in order to prevent any damage in the shipping process. I really appreciated this!

We love our Tyler Sofa w/chaise (stained walnut legs with Margaux Hypnotic fabric). It's comfortable, yet supportive and I loved that I could exactly customize the size. We've had the couch for over a year now and the fabric and filling still looks like day one. I adore my couch, like my pupils will dialate when I walk down my entryway & see it after work. My guests always notice this handsome piece & remark at it's comfort. I opted for the extra deep seats & I'm really enjoying the extra space, great for a quick nap or Netflix binge. The honey leather looks amazing, especially when paired with a sheepskin throw or rug. We were very hesitant about buying a couch sight unseen. After failing to find a couch we liked at any of the major store-based retailers, we began researching online-only retailers. Benchmade Modern had the best reviews and a style of couch that suited us perfectly. We ordered the Tyler with bumper. We received notification as the couch moved through the various phases but never felt bombarded with unnecessary notifications. Delivery was smooth sailing and the couch is AMAZING. Honestly I could go on forever about how much we love our couch. It hits that magical sweet spot of being perfect both for more formal sitting/having friends and family over to full out lazy Sunday sprawling. I love that there are no back cushions to get squashed down and you never feel like you're sinking into the cracks of the seat cushions. Our house is ~100 years old with quirky layouts - being able to custom size to the inch was a game changer and the couch fits the space perfectly. I rave about Benchmade Modern to friends and family and would not hesitate to order from them again in a few years when our playroom couch will need replacing!!

I've now had my couch potato love seat for over 3 months and I love it! It's so comfortable and looks great in my apartment. I'm so glad I made the decision to go with a Bench Made sofa. The couch Potato is a perfect blend of comfort and a modern look.
We love our Uncle Sal, he's become one of the family so fast. It's not even creepy to sit on him all day or fall asleep! All kidding aside, this couch is super comfy. It has some type of magic sleepy dust because if you lay on it, you will fall asleep. The color is perfect. It matched the swatch exactly and fits the room perfectly. Let's start with the customizing. We wanted a couch to fit a very specific spot. We looked at a lot of different couches but wanted a deep couch. You can't find that anywhere! So here we find the Uncle Sal: a deeper seat with a bumper and custom sizing. Jackpot! Getting the print out of the measurements was extremely helpful. We were able to ensure it fit the spot the way we wanted. Even gave us insight into whether or not we would want a chaise or bumper. The bumper, if you didn't know, is like the best of both worlds. It's like a chaise but still has some back so you can comfortably sit people there. It's love. We got a bunch of swatched and need something our very large and rough dog and toddler could beat up. The color is great and so far you can't even tell my dog sleeps on it every day (minus a small imprint where he snuggles the couch for ~4 solid hours). Theyve jumped on it, clawed at it, and drooled on it and it's still fantastic. The cushions are super heavy and comfortable. These aren't your cheap foam that wear out. These things have some heft! When it first came in, they did feel stiff. They've since broken in and are love. Sometimes you'll find my dog has left our mattress at night to go sleep on this couch. He's never done that with any other couch. We find ourselves getting so comfy that if you dare to fully lay on it, dont expect to finish your show. You will be alseep. My only complaint with the cushions is that I wish I could rotate all of them. I didn't think I would able to though considering it's a really custom size. So custom that they called me to ensure I was ok with such a large couch and could fit it through the doorway. They even upgraded me to White glove shipping after finding that the cost for them was the same. Should you buy this couch? Do you want a custom couch that fits exactly the way you want? Do you want to have comfort and a nice look that holds up to a toddler and crazy mutt? If you answered yes to any of these, get this couch. I've already recommended it to several friends. I typically get the "where did you get your couch? I need this in my life" comments. It's worth the wait!

I read a couple of reviews about this sofa and decided to go ahead and risk it—bought it in the perfect size for our room and also the extra-deep for my extra-tall husband. The fabric is dog and cat-friendly, it’s incredibly comfortable (not too firm nor too soft). I LOVE the color. I would buy this sofa again in a minute, and recommend to anyone who is weary of shopping and finding the “almost”-right fit.

I’m very happy with my purchase. My sofa looks great, the build quality is excellent, it arrived exactly when I specified, and the delivery went very smoothly. I am also very impressed with BenchMade Modern’s customer service. I had originally ordered a sofa with chaise, but because my dimensions were unusual, a customer service representative took the initiative and contacted me with more ideas. As a result, I eventually settled on a much better solution. I’ve already recommended BenchMade Modern to multiple people and would 100% buy from them again.
I could not love this chaise more. It’s ridiculously comfortable, the fabric is gorgeous, and it’s the perfect size. It’s heavy and obviously well made. It also arrived about two weeks ahead of schedule! I’m telling all my friends, Benchmade Modern is the way to go!

I was a bit skeptical about buying a sofa online, but couldn't find the mid-century styling I was looking for locally. Benchmade Modern made it so easy with their full size template and fabric swatches - it gave us more confidence. When the sofa arrived, it was beautiful! But one leg was broken. This is by far the highest-end piece of upholstered furniture we’ve ever purchased. After a ton of research, ordering a less expensive sectional elsewhere then having second thoughts and canceling, and poring over fabric samples, we took the plunge on the Skinny Fat. We have an oddly-shaped space and liked being able to customize the couch to for our space precisely. The quality of the couch is clear and it is beyond comfortable. I find the cushions to be a perfect blend of soft and firm. The look is modern without being overly trendy. So thrilled with our purchase.

I read about this company from an article in the New York Times and was immediately intrigued. It wasn’t until a few months later as I was agonizing over finding a sofa to fit my space that I remembered to look them up- I’m super happy I did. At first I was really nervous buying a sofa online without actually seeing and touching it in person but the whole experience was really awesome. First off I was able to pick the size of my sofa to the inch (they even sent me a free printout of the sofa I wanted to try out in the room first- so cool!). Next I had the option of choosing from a ton of different fabrics (another sweet feature- you can request swatches of the fabrics you like and they’ll send them to you free of charge!) After I chose my size and fabric- they made (in the US) my sofa in 12 days. That’s crazy. The sofa is perfect, such a cool design and it feels pretty awesome to know that it was made just for me. I don’t normally write reviews for things but the whole experience start to finish was definitely worth taking a couple minutes to share the cool stuff this company is doing to improve the sofa buying experience! We bought a sofa and a love seat. The material and colors (especially the glee dreamer) are beautiful. Despite measuring, the seats are deeper then I would have liked but some pillows will fix that. The cushions are also firmer than I expected. However, great sofas. The ordering process was very transparent and updates given throughout the manufacturing and shipping process.

I got a sofa and a loveseat. The fabric and colors are beautiful. The purchase and delivery process were great with numerous emails on the status. The seats are a little firmer than we would have liked but are fine. And, although I knew the seat depth and compared it to the couch I had, in reality, it is a little deeper than I would have liked. Extra pillows have helped.
We love the couch but are a little disappointed in the dimples the leather cushions developed in just the first couple of days of using it. Wondering if a little more stuffing would keep the surfaces more taught and smooth looking.
Overall we are very happy with our sofa. Very well made and sturdy construction. The seat is a bit too deep to sit for those a bit shorter. They should either slightly reduce the depth or slightly lower the seat to make if easier to sit upright.
My search for a traditional L-shaped sectional seemed doomed by the plethora of 'chaise sectionals' on the market until I found BenchMade modern. This sectional fits my space perfectly and with updated style that is very versatile. It sits with more traditional furniture, even antiques, and looks great. It is very comfortable and the 'Meis' fabric is fabulous. One complaint - the fabric has come loose from one of the tufted buttons on tne bench cushion.
Love the bed but the legs keep loosening and squeaking as the bed moves. I have to re-tighten them fairly frequently. Hoping that eventually it breaks in and seats appropriately but it's been ~3 months or so
Love so much about this couch and even more so the amazing customer service I’ve received both before and after buying it. The only glitch was in the manufacture (some defects in the leather + a frame that is far too visible through the material on one piece of the sectional) — but the folks at Benchmade have been nothing but helpful and I am confident it will all be made right!
We love the look and fit of our skinny fat sectional. The fabric is just perfect and it’s comfy for this family’s humans and pups. The only concern I have is that the cushions are already starting to get misshapen and are difficult to make look like proper couch cushions again (seams not at edges, rounded shape vs. flat).
When you spend $9000 on a couch, you expect to receive something like what you get at Room and Board, only maybe without the added markup you know they tack on. This sectional is not even close. The most damning thing about this couch is how the fabric looks. They've obviously used some inferior fabrics from china, because each and every cushion has the ruching effect you get in cheap suits, cheap draperies, etc. The whole point of a mod sofa is nice crisp lines, and this thing looks like its made out of jcpenney suit material from the 70s. And to add insult to injury, the padding within the fabric doesn't fit correctly, so the seams are all off, and sitting diagonal on the shape of each cushion. It's rough, and people have commented on how it looks like a "dorm sectional", (which is mortifying). Huge regrets here buying from an unknown brand. Trying to find a way to offload it and get something that doesn't make my otherwise beautiful house look like someone without eyes decorated it. It's mildly comfortable
Was disappointed that no body from BenchMade Modern followed up right after I received my furniture. It's been about 2 months since I received it before getting this rather generic survey. The furniture is fine overall but the seat cushions could be a bit firmer. The backs of the sofas are a bit flimsy feeling. It feels like the back is some form of cardboard and flexes if you put your knee against it.
I would highly recommend Benchmade Modern to anyone and would buy more of the products. I am very happy with the sofa. The quality and workmanship is very impressive for the price. Along with that customer support has also been great even during COVID-19 when I needed it. They always got back to me within 2-3 business days and were very supportive. I took away 1 star because I expected safer packaging for the price and they packaged the wrong support so I had to wait for the right one to be sent to me.
I bought the size recommended for women. I don't have a large face. But the mask is a bit small, barely going over the chin. Otherwise, I like the stiffness which holds if off the mouth. I wash it in the machine but hang to dry so simple to clean.
Great quality mask, only thing is it is not very breathable. Okay if walking around, but if doing any exercise, might be difficult.
I bought 3 of these -- one for me and one for each of my roommates. We all agree that while they look really cool and are super high quality and hold up well in the wash, the ear straps are a little too short and they fall off your face. Be prepared to need to make adjustments.
The sofa is comfortable and stylish and just like it was pictured. The in-home fabric swatches are very accurate. I find the neck support a little lacking when wanting to lean back and watch tv for long periods, but I think that is just the style of this particular sofa with its low back pillows and something I didn't take into account. One downside of not being able to try it out in person first. That being said we got some decorative pillows for it and that problem is solved. Customer service was very helpful and very communicative during the processes. Delivery guys went above and beyond to get it into my house. I would highly recommended a Bench Made sofa for anyone out there.
Comfortable with no regrets, but wish I had the chance to try in store. Not a monumental task from Benchmade’s end, just make some partnerships and sacrifice going to a maximum of 10% discount vs 20%. The piece of mind is worth it for customers taking a chance from the unknown to the known.
This is for the skinny fat sofa, not the corner sectional with bumper. For whatever reason, the sectional is the only one I can leave a review for. Anyways, my family and I love this sofa. It’s so comfy and well made. The orange fabric we chose looks amazing. I have one issue with the sofa though. After owning the sofa for a few months, I removed one of the arm covers to clean it and noticed that the insert was made for the other side of the sofa. The way the skinny fat is made does not allow for the arm pieces to be switched, one is made specifically for the right side and the other for the left side. After checking the other arm piece just in case they were accidentally switched, I discovered that I received two of the same arm pieces, not a right and left piece. Since the sofa is custom made and at this price point, I expect to receive the correct pieces. Had I never removed the cover, I would have not noticed that there was something wrong. But maybe that’s why it was sent to me like this after the mistake- because the chances of me noticing were low. Despite this, I still love the sofa and would order another one but this time I’ll be sure to check the inserts as soon as I receive it.
This sofa is low profile enough that, even in a dark color, it makes our room feel bigger. It looks perfect! It could be a little more plush, but I’m sure we’ll break it in.
My wife and I have loved our Tyler Sectional over the couple of years we've owned it. It's gone through quite the beating..two moves, two dogs with no reservations about jumping and rubbing all over it, and a couple who eats in the living room quite a bit. It's held quite remarkably well. It has a bit of sagging, and it's similarly difficult to clean to other sofas if you have a dog that sheds, but besides that - we're VERY happy with our investment.
Great couch! It’s a phenomenal value for an item custom made for my space and taste. The only ding is that I wish the cushions held up better. That said, I’d totally order the same again. It’s so beautiful and affordable. A true addition to my room design!

We purchased the Skinny Fat couch two months ago and are very happy with our purchase. The process was very smooth and I appreciated being able to select my fabric (glee dreamer - LOVE it), dimensions and leg wood colors. It is a good balance of comfortable and supportive. I would recommend Benchmade Modern.

We didn’t actually end up purchasing our furniture from here, but we did get fabric samples and a printout template of the Couch Potato Sofa. All customer service surrounding those items was great!
It was great for us to be able to buy couches by the inch. We could make them fit perfectly in an awkwardly sized space. In our experience, the cushion filling for the seats need work. Its too firm which makes the cushions warp in less than ideal ways.

Very comfortable, more beautiful than I expected. However the smell of off-gas is noticeable and gives me some light headache and hurt my eyes for the first few days. Would be better if the materials used are more environmentally friendly and healthy.
Not the quality I expected for the price. The couch began squeaking after about a week of mild use. Cushion covers were installed incorrectly with seams not aligned to pillow edges so I had to redo them all. The couch is comfy but after owning Restoration Hardware pieces and other “custom” furniture I can’t justify paying this price again for the sub-par construction. Turn time was pretty quick, received the couch in 5 weeks.
I really wanted to love this sofa. I searched for months before finding Benchmade Modern and finally placing an order. I struggled with the idea of purchasing something I’d never sat on, but that seemed to be the only option if we didn’t want to go the big box store route. I finally took the plunge after reading all the glowing reviews. After having the sofa for a couple of months, I have to say that I’m definitely not in love. The seat cushions are already losing their shape, and they start sliding out within the day when I push everything back into place. I’m not opposed to a firmer sit, but it’s just not as comfortable to lounge on as I’d hoped. I often find my tailbone sore after sitting on it for just an hour or so. We’d waited such a long time for a couch that we just didn’t want to return it and have nothing again. But I can definitely say that I would not have purchased this couch had I been able to sit on it before buying. To be honest, I’m feeling pretty sad and deflated about the whole experience :(
The style and fabric are great but I am really disappointed in the comfort. We even paid for the upgraded comfort cushion option.
The sofa is just mediocre in comfort. I paid for white glove delivery and the guys did not even have the right tools to install the legs. They were installed crooked.
Great customer service = one star Rapid delivery = one star Nice size of the sofa and feel to the velvet fabric = one star Rock hard cushions (paid for extra trillium) = minus one star as I had to return the sofa, they offered me a cushion swap but it just wasn't worth it overall. Quality not quite worth $4k for the sofa = minus one star. Overall appearance didn't look like a luxury item, just not as striking as I expected - stitching on the cushions was one thread, also wavy which caused the edges to pucker in an unattractive way. Would have expected two lines of stitching or some other luxury details to justify the $. The back cushions were comfortable - if the seat cushions were as soft the sofa would have some "sink" to it for relaxing. Its a more formal sofa so you want some form but I could still balance a wine glass on the cushions at the end.
Couch is wonderful. A series of events slowing production and a shipper who ruined the couch enroute made the wait interminable for us. Audrey in Customer Service kept us up to date with events, making the wait more understandable. Again, the couch is everything we wanted it to be. Just beautiful and practical for children, family animals and a tall tired owner.
We ordered a Catwalk sectional and sofa. The both look nice. However, although we ordered the firmer cushions, they doen't feel as well constructed as the other Benchmade Modern sectional we own--maybe because the cushions are not thick, they feel softer despite having firm inserts. Also, the back cushions have a weird shape. The have curved comers at the bottom, possibly to make them fit better, but this detracts from a sharp look. The other sofa we have is a Skinny Fat. It is much better built and more comfortable than the Catwalk.
We really like the way the Robin recliner looks. But it doesn’t stay in the full recline position at all. It always wants to close the legs back to the close position.
The couch shape is lovely. It’s comfortable. The fabric which is supposed to be 50,000 rub count is already looking old and worn. I’m really disappointed in the amount of money I spent on this with the fuzzy fabric already.
I got my sofa roughly two weeks ago. It's comfy. But how the cushions look have been driving me nuts. In short, they don't look like what I paid and look much lower quality. One seat, I've had to continually adjust because there's a bit of loose fabric so the seams don't really line up. The back cushions...oh man, the back cushions. I've had to flip them basically every day after spending a couple hours on the couch so they look decent instead of slouchy in the middle. The cushions all feel substantial and heavy. But overall, the look is much messier and cheaper than I expected for what I paid. I've reached out to the company with some questions regarding whether this is normal.
First, the couch is amazing. We love it. It’s super comfortable while also being stylish and a nice addition to the space. The ordering process was easy and pain free. Lots of customization available. And, importantly to us given the price point, everything about the sofa feels built to last. The fabric is durable and resilient and the frame is strong. All that said, we paid an extra ~250 for white glove delivery and we feel like this was a total waste of money. First, the delivery guys tried to convince me that the little plastic feet that were attached to the bottom of the sofa to support it during the move were the actual legs, and that the wooden legs which came in the box were just extras in case we wanted to change up the height of the sofa. I had to go to the benchmade website and show them the picture of the sofa online to convince them this was not the case. Next, they had no idea how to put the cushions on, and I basically had to redo it myself (this was not really a huge deal though, just one annoying thing among many). Finally, one of the legs arrived without the plastic glider attached, which led to the sofa being very unstable. We had to stuff cardboard under that leg for the first week while we waited for benchmade to send a replacement glider. That in and of itself is also not a huge deal (you can’t always catch everything at the factory, I get it), but then I basically had to take the sofa apart, flip it over, and attach the glider myself. So like, what did the $250 I paid for white glove delivery really buy me? Overall, I would say don’t hesitate to buy the couch. But don’t bother with the white glove delivery. In my experience, you might as well light that money on fire.
I've tried many different cloth masks from various brands. The benchmade masks are made of good material, but a poorly sized, not covering from nose to chin (I did purchase the adult size). The elastic bands are also short and not adjustable, making the mask a bit uncomfortable to wear. Of the various masks I've tried, these are probably behind the middle of the pack and I only use it if I expect to wear the mask for a short time.
My husband and I really like the look and shaped style of these masks. Provided you get the correct size, they fit more comfortably than the basic pleated masks we've used, especially if you have a larger/taller face. The stiffness of the outer fabric keeps them in place from nose to chin, and keeps them from getting sucked in when you breathe. They are, however, quite thick, so it's pretty difficult to be heard when talking through them, and a too warm in the summer and uncomfortable if you're breathing heavily (so, not for exercise). It's still my husband's preferred mask, and I will use mine more as the weather cools off, for outings and store visits where I don't expect to have conversations (as opposed to, say, a backyard visit with masked friends). Not the perfect mask, but still a useful and stylish one to have in the rotation.
Pretty to look at when the seams are straight.The material slides around so I constantly need to readjust the seams. Just fair in terms of comfort. Not the right piece for family room. Better for use in a room that is rarely used.
The Good: Crowd Pleaser’s versatile design nailed all the requirements of my tiny apartment. The low back height and loose cushions allow me to reposition the cushions when I want to watch TV (tiny apartment = TV is mounted on a side wall instead of directly in front of the sofa), and I can also move the cushions out of the way when my window-unit AC is turned on. Brilliant! Extra kudos to Bench Made’s excellent customer service. Initially, I was concerned that the cushions would be too tall, so they promised to work with me to design custom, lower-profile cushions. (Turns out I did not need them.) The Bad: I chose the “Addison Charcoal” fabric from the standard selection because I love the color, but the fabric has turned out to be difficult to maintain. It attracts all kinds of lint, which is hard to vacuum off even though I vacuum it every couple days. And the fabric already shows pilling and loose threads in spots, which is really disappointing after only a few months especially given how much I paid for the sofa. I owned my last sofa for 10 years and never had these issues. Not sure if the premium fabrics would avoid this problem, but I am really worried that I’ll need to replace this sofa sooner than I’d like because of the upholstery wear. In sum, brilliant design but the execution still needs work.
Overall I like this sofa— wish I hadn’t got the deeper version as it was unnecessary. Fabric is lovely and should wear really well. The back cushions are surprisingly heavy and stuffed really well. However the chaise lounge seat cushion is lumpy and shapeless and looks odd compared to the rest of the sofa. It’s as if there was a different person stuffing the chaise cushion. A little disappointed at how it looks.
Our sofa bed couch arrived this week and although it looks great and is very comfortable, we’ve had some issues. The pull-out feature will not open, which is a significant problem since we paid more to have this feature. We sent a video to the BenchModern team and are hoping to find a way to trouble shoot this but haven’t heard back about specific advice. There is also a break in a wooden slat that was covered by the front of the couch so only noticed it when the shipping people left. It seemed like this could also be replaced, but we need more feedback from BenchModern. We shared a video and pictures of the damage but the only feedback we’ve heard is that an insurance agent would be coming at some point to look at the couch and then it would probably need to be returned. We waited four months for a couch and do not really have time to deal with all of this considering how long it would take for us to get a new one at this point. We are getting very frustrated as we now have two couches in a small space and are disappointed in the lack of communication and willingness to help us try and fix both of these problems. We’ve now been turned over to a third party insurance agency and who knows when they will be able to see us to deal with all of this. Would be happy to update this review if it gets resolved.
This is NOT an inexpensive sofa. We purchased the uncle Sal chaise sectional with upgraded trillium cushions. To say that I hate this sofa would be an understatement. The cushions lose their shape almost immediately and ALWAYS look smashed down---not much different than down with one major difference...they are SO INSANELY HEAVY. It's a FULL BODY WORKOUT to fluff them and I am not someone who is out of shape. They need to be fluffed morning and night in order for the sofa not to look like a sloppy mess. They also do not fluff as easily as down--like i have to throw my whole body weight onto each back cushion to try and redistribute the foam evenly so it isn't smashed down. It's insane! I cannot express how much I do not like this expensive sofa. It's just not comfortable and always looks messy. I reached out to Benchmade to see if I could trade the upgraded pillows for the downgraded ones in hope to possibly get some that either maintain their shape or are lighter..but of course no response. Should have just bought a down sofa from crate and barrel. Huge and EXPENSIVE mistake.
Furniture and design are a big part of my life. I've purchased many sofas, both for me personally and in my work ... from department stores and local upholsterers, from commercial sales companies and online, from some very reliable companies, and some decidedly not-so. I have never had an experience like this one. I read a lot of reviews for maybe eight different online vendors. I narrowed it down to BenchMade Modern for their 5-star feedback, fun/easy website and great design options. And the box of swatches that came quickly. Once I submitted the order, they were immediately in touch via email. I needed to make a small change to the order a couple days in, so I contacted them via email. I heard back same day from a Person (a nice person) who invited me to stay in direct touch throughout the process, and who kept me posted. I never "wondered" what was going on. The templates they provided early-on in the process were most excellent! Terrific for planning ahead, and fun, too! Seldom have I felt so well served as a customer, online or otherwise! Our sofa arrived in 41 days. The white-glove delivery service was first class ... provided by a local company from a nearby city, with continued first-class service. We purchased a Skinny Fat sofa and ottoman. They are absolutely beautiful and comfortable (firm with a nice give, a quality "sit"). These guys are the real deal. :-)
