Englander is a brand of Southerland mattress and was founded in the 1800s. They focus predominantly on foam, latex, and hybrid mattresses with an eco-friendly flare. They are committed to lower carbon-footprint practices and standards. Overall, they piggyback off of many of Southerland's mattress production facilities across the United States and are predominantly found in Southern and Midwest US mattress retail stores. Their difference is found in their selection of cooling foams and eco-friendly latex.
Sleep Science builds a line of latex and memory foam mattresses. Their claim to fame is their 'wedge' technology that provides edge support to every piece of the mattress. Additionally, they are Certipur certified, which means they have low VOC and no formaldehyde in their mattresses. They also use bamboo material in some of their mattresses. Their mattresses are made popular through their relationship with Costco warehouse stores where they are sold at a competitive price vs many of the retail sold mattresses of similar material quality.

Finding out how customers really feel is sometimes a difficult task -- especially with companies coming in and out of the market quickly. Customers, sadly, don't give these mattresses as high reception as others in the industry. There are still sleepers who are perfectly cozy with these products, but others that are not as much. Get more details on the specifics and hear from customers below.
In terms of support, these mattresses have had some mixed reviews. Some have described them as supportive and report being comfortable, but others had problems getting comfortable. If you are someone who is above average in weight or has wide shoulders or hips, you should do some added research before purchasing.
Edge support is an important attribute for those that like to sit on the side of the mattress without discomfort. Some may find that the edge support in these mattresses is not as robust as others.
Mattresses with lasting comfort are amazing, but not always easy to find. Sadly, sleepers don't rate these mattresses well when it comes to durability. That said, some mattresses may last a significantly long time without issue, while other customers may have much faster discomfort. If you are a heavier individual, read up on your options because you may be at a higher risk for durability issues from some mattresses.
Customers had mixed emotions about these mattresses. Many folks sleep well and describe a comfortable experience, but there were others who were not as comfortable. To make sure that one of these mattresses will work for you, read on below.
Most customers describe these mattresses as having above average supportiveness, which is refreshing for those struggling with the aches and pains of a sagging bed. That said, some folks have had issues with the firmness and support levels overall, so take a look at some of the other reports from customers to make sure your choice is right for your body.
Edge support is how much a mattress props you up along the sides of the mattress. These mattresses do well here, but heavier folks may experience some contouring.
Mattresses don't last as long as they used to in years past. A mattress that continues to stay comfortable after 15 years is becoming rarer and rarer. That said, finding a long-living and comfortable mattress can save you thousands. These mattresses get mixed feelings on durability. Many folks don't report any issues, but others have comfort problems over a shorter time frame than is usual.
I bought a latex Englander pillow top bed about 6 years ago, in the store it was super comfortable but after I got it (Queen size) and had it for a few months it started sagging. I only weigh 143 and it shouldn't do that. Within a few years it was awful. When it became horrible, I called them and spoke with the customer service team, I sent pictures and documented how bad it was. The bed I had was discontinued, and they actually replaced it with a top of the line pillow top mattress--it was their best model, and probably about an $1800 mattress. I was thrilled, now 6 months into it--I have to turn the thing constantly to avoid the sagging. It is almost as bad as the other one and I completely hate it. I bought a new bed this week. I really wanted it to work out but these are just not great. I can say their customer service was excellent, but I would never recommend these. They aren't cheap and they are so uncomfortable--I can't imagine 2 people on one that weigh more than me.View More Reviews
We spent $1150+ on an E-gel, cool gel technology Queen, and after about 8 months it started to sag. Englander sent someone over to check the bed and we were told it was 'expected' wear and tear - I'm furious - less than 2 years old - absolutely awful and I am doing everything in my power to spread the word everywhere on the net about this company and their expensive, sagging mattress. :( My $400 mattress was more comfortable after 6 years than this one. I feel bitter about the amount of money and lack of accountability for poor quality, poor durability and crap customer service. Anyone know how to launch a class-action law suit against these clowns?
I bought an Englander mattress in December 1996. It was a double-pillow top queen sized mattress with the matching box spring. It is only now that I am thinking of replacing it with a new mattress. I am thinking about a memory foam mattress. This model was the best one that the store carried. For the entire time that I have had the mattress, it was wonderful and very comfortable. The only reason that I am want to replace it, it because of its age. It always had a protective cover on it.
Just bought a englander capri. Queen size for $396 after tax. So far so good
Had a Queen pillowtop for a month now. Absolutely the best Mattress I've ever owned. I saved hundreds of dollars and would recommend The Mattress Outlet and Englander Mattress to anyone that wants a great night's sleep. You do not need to spend thousands to be comfortable. I am completely satisfied with the product.
We bought a englander back in 05 and have been happy every night since. I feel like I am sleeping on a cloud. Not sure the model but it was about $1200
I bought an Englander Ultimate Visco Pillowtop, expensive, the store went out of business and I am stuck with the worst mattress in the world, it is only two and a half years old and has two holes one on each side and a hump in the middle, pleople learn from my mistake do not buy this mattress.
Do not buy an Englander mattress. The biggest ripoff in my life of 56 years is the Englander mattress. Only 6 months ago we bought one for over $800.00. I have been sleeping in a hole for 3 months now. Tomorrow i will cut it in half and transport the halves to the wholesaler where I will glue them to the sidewalk in front of the store.
Bought this mattress three months ago and it has a giant hole directly in the middle of the mattress. I am not a big person and can't understand how normal sleep would ever cause something like this to happen. I am so disappointed and all I want is a new mattress, but the store said that the sale was final. I was jipped out of hundreds of dollars.
Six months in and I can't even sleep in this bed because the bedding itself has entirely degraded. I am not a sensitive sleeper and would gladly sleep on a couch any day, but this bed has turned into a painful metal mess. I can't do this to myself.
Bought this bad a year ago and have been in constant pain since 2 weeks in. The shoddy crafstmanship is unbelievable. Buyer beware!!!
I purchased my mattress by chance from an store that was going out of business in 2007. To this day everyone that comes to visit brags about the restful night they get. Nothing but snores from the guest bedroom. I brought my second one, replacing my mattress with an Englander, now I have two. I hope my second one last as long as my first one.
I purchased a king sized mattress and box spring January 2014 - from Beds Beds Beds in Crestwood, The mattress is an Englander Mattress OAKVILLE FM is what is on the tag. I emailed Englander Bedding twice and got no answer - I will try calling the company directly later today. The mattress is lumpy my spouse and I weight about 137-150 each so there is no valid reason why the mattress should be lumpy. I don't know if this complaint will do anything but I quite unhappy with the mattress (the box spring appears ok). I keep hearing Englander mattress stands by their product and so far no response. The mattress before we see that it is lumpy in 3 spots is a firm mattress and we both got a good nights sleep.
Mattress has been sagging for 3-4 years now, and it is only 6 years old! I only weigh 135 pounds! Wake up stiff and sore. Just bought a big name competitor's mattress/box springs and guess what -- all my aches and stiffness went away.
We bought this mattress over a year ago...had no idea that they sold a separate foundation. Spent months replacing the bunky board we got from Crate and Barrell 2 times and dealing with back pain, even called the mattress mfr. The mattress mfr said they recommend their foundation instead of bunky board. Ordering it today, hopefully it will take care of the problem but paying $50 more than if I bought them together from the start. They need to update the description and recommend the foundation if they don't buy it separately OR don't even sell the mattress alone. Description said it needs a 'solid' foundation...what does that even mean? I had a hard time trying to find a bunky board that is solid wood from many retailers. Crate and Barrel's new bunky board is made of compressed cardboard! A painful process, but I like the mattress.View More Reviews
The mattress is definitely on the firm side but we both find it about right. After 11 months, the bed seems to be wearing very well... no signs of change in feel or shape. The adjustable bed is used in zero gravity every night for one of us and not used at all for the other. The adjustable bed works well for back sleepers but not side or stomach sleepers.
This bed is the best we have ever slept on, even 6 years later. We have the queen, and now want a Cali king (we now have a dog sleeping with us), and will be buying another one of these latex matresses from Costco. This one will go into the guest room, and it looks brand new. It has not settled or sagged at all, even though it is used every night, by 2 people. It is NOT hot, either. The memory foam mattress we bought from Costco first, was hot, however. So we returned the memory foam and got this latex mattress. We are so happy!!!
I did what i thought was plenty of research before i bought this bed.. I've waited a full year to try and get used to it, and kept telling myself and my spouse it would get better. Not only was it hard and uncomfortable but, from 3 months on, it had big depression on both sides. It seemed to get worse , not better! The only good thing is i bought it from Costco, so they agreed to take it back, no problem! Yea Costco!!
I bought this bed on July 7, 2016. It was my first Costco online shopping. As in warehouse shopping, the online service was very good. The delivery company did not call me to confirm the delivery time but Joshua and Carlos did great in the delivery of the bed and setting it up. Brandon at the distribution center was excellent. I could test the bed before the purchase. The latex mattress feels cool in summer compared to other types of mattresses. I hope I enjoy my bed for many years to come. I love shopping at Costco!!!
I've purchased 3 of these mattress so far. The first one about 3 years ago, then another one the following year and another one a couple months ago. the first one was in a guest room and the other two were for two of my kids who loved the bed when they slept on it while visiting!
I bought this bed over 2 years ago, maybe 3 years now. My husband was a reluctant buyer, because we are only early 40's :) He thought adjustable was for the nursing home. But he had enjoyed it just as much. It hasn't helped his snoring, but he enjoys the leg elevation and massage features after a tough day or workout, and elevation of his head when congested. I have had a couple of back injuries from car accidents, and sleep considerably better on this bed than ANY OTHER!! We had a memory foam before this. This is NOT memory foam. Memory foam sinks in with your weight, then when you turn over you fall back into the rut you created. Ours was also hot. This foam doesn't radiate heart back at you. I love that! It doesn't sink in. It has great support. It is nice to be able to sleep elevated without getting up in the middle of the night to prop up or go to the recliner. My bed sleeps just like it did almost 3 years ago. No sagging, indentions, or soft spots. It does creak a little when adjusting, nothing a little wd-40 can't fix. The base and massage features still work like a top. No problem! Good buy!
Purchased and received this split King organic mattresses with adjustable bases on April 8th, 2016. What a great product! Both my husband and I absolutely love our mattresses! The adjustable bases fit perfectly inside our existing bed frame, and the mattresses are sooooo very comfortable. I have always been a side sleeper, but no more! I'm able to easily sleep on my back now. Since I am a professional singer, this is a real plus for me. Also, the adjustability allows me to (among other things) raise my head ever so slightly to allow for sinus drainage as well as legs for additional perfectly tweaked comfort. The mattress cover is soft and also feels luxurious. A 3 inch layer of softer 19 ILD natural latex perfectly compliments the firmer 32 ILD layer underneath it to softly cradle with no pressure points yet support my body superbly. Adjustable base works great. Fully articulates for customization. Zero Gravity pre programmed position is heavenly! Don't wait. Buy this now!!! You'll be glad you did! Great price and great product. Thanks Sleep Science - Well done!
We got this bed a couple of months ago. It is very comfortable. Unaware another person is in the same bed. Mattress is fine for us, not too firm and not too soft. No odor.
Delivery company had great personnel.
One side had a control box (located under the bed) that failed in the first few hours. Costco called the company and we had a new one installed by the company in a few days.
I would suggest going to check out Dreamfit mattress covers (they come in twin xl and their kings sheets (2 twin xl bottom sheets with one King top sheet. Their bottom sheets and mattress covers have extra elastic straps to hold the sheets in place. I found these after much research. They stay in place great. Love my bed!!
The mattress delivery was great..even on time. The mattress itself is nice ...no sinking in like foam. Soft and supportive. The adjustable base is great. I do wish the lights on the remotes would come on before you try to poke the right button. Zero gravity setting is awesome!
Its very comfortable. Firm for support but not too firm. My wife & I think it is the best mattress we have slept in. No smell at all.
Disagree with the SUBJECTIVE product details 'Sleep Science comfort scale: medium with a bounce.'
There is missing objective ILD firmness scale info in the product details. For me, 5'3 and less than 120 lb, this is surely a soft latex mattress. In general, The 'soft' designation corresponds to an ILD rating of 19-21. The ILD rating for the medium range is 24-26. After digging yourself, then you find this mattress has ILD 19 on the top 3 inch layer over another 6 inch of 32 ILD.
