Meet Awara, the pressure relieving latex hybrid mattress, featuring GOLS certified organic latex, and a sustainable mission for a pricepoint that comparatively carries much more value for its 13'' thick mattress than many other latex mattress companies. Whether you are sensitive to chemicals or enjoy the invigorating feel of latex, you can rest easy that your purchase is eco-conscious since Awara holds a certification with ClimatePartner that plants trees for every mattress purchased. With a universally comfortable medium-plush feel, Awara brings a comfy sigh of relief to its sleepers.
Naturepedic makes a variety of mattresses for adults and children. Their popularity stems from being an organic mattress maker. What does organic mean in the mattress context? It means that they only use organic textiles (think cotton) and organic foams (think latex). This differentiator is a big plus for those that suffer from allergy sensitivities or have young children that do. You are going to expect to pay a premium for such materials.
Based on our aggregated reviews and our scoring method, we recommend Awara in this match up!

That said, the customer feedback is clear when you can get at the data. These mattreses last for more than a few years for the average customer. Heavier folks may find these mattresses to be less long living.
From right before making my purchase to coordinating a set up time, Awara and their team of customer support staff has been truly magical. Extremely helpful and easy to work with, I have nothing but good things to say about the Awara staff and company overall. Their customer support is reason enough to purchase from them, but it doesn’t hurt that their mattress is now the best, most comfortable piece of furniture I own.View More Reviews
For years my wife has complained about bad sleep. We’ve spent money on going to see an herbalist and doctors. One appointment her doctor recommended that she try using a new mattress. The thought had literally never occurred to us because I always slept so well. We like the idea and ease of a mattress in a box, so we chose Awara after hearing about it through the grapevine. Lo and behold, after a few weeks of adjusting, my wife hardly ever wakes up unhappy anymore, and actually we’re both much happier because of it.
I am completely shocked at how much I love this mattress. Generally when you read reviews I’m kind of cynical about whether someone else can tell me about my sleep. What really sold me with Awara, though, is the 365 day trial. I figured if I bought it and really hated it that I could just send it back and get all of my money back with no hassle or anything. I was pretty shocked to be honest that I actually slept extremely well, the best I’ve slept in years, for weeks in a row with this mattress. It lives up to the reviews for sure. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable mattress with an excellent trial and warranty.
Awara seems like such a hip company that really focuses on their customer service. I had to make a phone call to the company about a return because I decided that I wanted to save my money (nothing to do with how wonderful the mattress was), and I was pleasantly surprised at how completely easy the whole process was. I wasn’t even pressured into keeping it at a lower cost. I didn’t feel any guilt about returning, and that’s exactly how it should be.
My girlfriend and I love our new Awara mattress so much that we spend as much time on it as we can, including breakfast in bed during the weekdays. We both work from home so we’re lucky that we can sleep in a little longer during the week and soak up the comfort of this beautiful new bed.
So it’s not a 100% miracle cure for snoring, but wow, it’s really helped to reduce my husband’s snoring! It’s not completely gone but it’s way way less than what it used to be, and I’m sure it’s because of the new Awara mattress we got. It’s just so much more comfortable and we are both getting much better sleep and feeling so much better in the morning. Thank you to Awara for making such a great product!
If you’re a student, you know how important it is to get a good night of sleep. Some wear their sleep deprivation like a badge of honor, but I learned early on (after collapsing from sleep deprivation from study for 2 days straight) that prioritizing sleep was essential. That’s why I asked for a new mattress for my birthday from my parents. They thought it was a boring gift, but I’ve felt the rewards tenfold since sleeping on this mattress and it’s definitely changed my life for the better.
I trusted my friend when she told me to get the Awara mattress and I cannot thank her enough. I think I’m eternally in debt to her because of how great a recommendation it was! Excellent price and excellent quality!
Looking into which mattress to buy was extremely OVERWHELMING for my boyfriend and I. We knew that we wanted something to replace our old Full size mattress that we got as a hand-me-down when we moved into our place. After a few weeks of research I stumbled upon Awara, and the all natural latex materials it was made out of really caught my attention. After trying it out for a few weeks we knew that we wanted to keep it forever. It was extremely comfortable and we love the quick recovery and bounce back that this mattress has.
An excellent choice for anyone in need of a newer more comfortable mattress.
What’s not to love about Awara? Honestly. The free shipping, 365 night trial period, and warranty that lasts forever. I’m surprised these guys haven’t sold out!
Was recommended this mattress from my parents who bought one a few months back. Thanks to my mom and dad. Best recommendation they’ve given me in my life. Looks like I still have a lot to learn from them!
I’ve been sleeping on the same mattress for 20+ years and needless to say it was time for something new. I bought a Queen sized Awara mattress for me and my girlfriend recently and we loved it so much that we decided to buy them as Christmas presents this year for her parents and my parents. My siblings are going to hate me for it, but I think we just won Christmas.
I’ve been feeling amazing recently and I know that a large part of that has to do with the Awara mattress. I am sleeping soundly and comfortably and not tossing and turning as much as I used to. It feels like a miracle.
Finally know what it feels like to wake up without soreness and annoyed that I can’t touch my toes even though I do yoga. I could get used to this.
Normally it would have taken me months to decide on an item that is a big investment, such as a mattress, but with Awara I felt confident to make a purchase. I was recommended this mattress from a friend and I am very happy. I’ll be recommending this to other friends as well.
The Awara mattress was definitely a bit on the pricey side for my budget but I am so glad that I bought it. It was honestly worth every penny. I struggle from a chronic sleep disorder that got worse once I started my new job so I was desperate for something to help. I had heard about the Awara mattress and was really interested to try a hybrid. So glad I did. I’ve been sleeping like a baby!
My husband and I were having a really difficult time trying to coordinate a mattress purchase from another online mattress company and we got fed up. We were about to start looking in stores until my mother in law told us about the Awara mattress. We are an eco friendly couple looking to find something made from natural materials, so she knew that this was right up our alley. We decided to go with Awara, and were pleasantly surprised at how easy the process was and how easy it was to communicate with the customer service team. So much better than our first attempt, we would definitely recommend Awara.
This is the best, coziest, comfiest mattress I have ever owned! It’s dangerous how comfortable it is and how well I’m sleeping because of it! My work might suffer...
Honestly, I am so happy that I decided to get this mattress, that all I can say is 10/10 would recommend.
If you’re like me, you struggle with sleep and you know how terrible it is after you’ve gone for 3, 4, or more days with little to no sleep. It’s so bad that it bleeds into other aspects of your life and you’re unable to to your best work, be as social as you’d like, or be as present for your friends and family as you’d like to. This is why it was important to me to find a mattress that really helped to improve my sleep, and I am happy to report that I found it with the Awara mattress. It’s incredible, I am sleeping much, much better than I ever used to and I finally feel less like a zombie during the day. So grateful to have found this amazing product.
It can be difficult, especially in the world of mattresses, to find something that doesn’t cost a fortune but is made with high quality materials and is still extremely comfortable to sleep on, but Awara hits this intersection of criteria perfectly. We’d tested out another online mattress and were extremely disappointed, but decided to give Awara a try after hearing about friends of ours who bought one and loved it. So glad that we did. Been getting amazing sleep since.
If I were you and reading these reviews and wondering if you should choose Awara, I say just go ahead and do it. Delivery, shipping, and returns are all free, plus you have an entire year to sleep on it before deciding for sure whether or not you want to keep it. Even if you don’t, Awara will come and pick it up for you if you want to return it. It’s so easy. I’m saying all of this because it’s worth trying out if you’re afraid that it’d be too much of a hassle. It’s not. It’s also a truly incredible mattress, so don’t wait. Try it for yourself and enjoy better sleep.
One of the most comfortable things I have ever slept on! Seriously. Do yourself a favor and get one of these mattresses.
Buying a mattress online is not for the faint of heart. It’s kind of scary because you’re not really able to try it before hand! You’ve really just got to trust your gut from the website and other reviews, and the reviews are exactly why I chose to go with Awara. It seems like people really love it, and now I see why!
I wouldn’t have chosen this mattress if it wasn’t for the amazing financing option. I can pay small, monthly payments but I was still able to order and receive my mattress right away. Love it.
Got my mattress a few days ago and my sleep has already improved! Since night one I’ve woken up much more easily in the mornings, sometimes even before my alarm. I am actually feeling rested during the day too. It’s great.
I’ve tried multiple mattresses already and was never able to find one that had that just right feeling for me, until I tried the Awara mattress. It’s not too soft and not too firm, it really is just right! I’d recommend this mattress to anyone looking for something that is soft yet perfectly supportive without being stiff or lumpy.
We absolutely adore our new Awara mattress and can hardly imagine sleeping on anything else. Don’t know why it took us so long to buy something new but we’re so happy with this purchase.
I’ve spent years unhappy with my mattress, even resorting to sleeping on an air mattress because I couldn’t afford a real one. Finally, I saved up my money, and invested in the Awara mattress. I had heard really good things about hybrid mattresses and was interested in trying something made from latex because it’s an all natural material. It’s been three weeks and I am never looking back. Plus the lifetime warranty makes the price a steal! All around I am a very happy camper.
Was nervous at first about purchasing from an online store but the super long trial period made me feel a lot better about it. Loved this mattress so much I bought one for my mom for Christmas and I cannot wait to give it to her.
My husband and I are very new parents (we have a 6 week old) and just before the baby came my parents bought us an Awara bed. We did not realize just how generous of a gift this was until after the baby came and sleep became a precious commodity. I think if it wasn’t for how comfortable that new mattress was, we would have actually gone crazy from how little sleep we were getting! I’m sure all new parents feel that way, but even though we were getting little sleep I know that I was getting a deep sleep, because I definitely would wake up feeling very refreshed.
I am OBSESSED with this mattress! I honestly cannot say enough good things about it, from the incredible customer service team that answered my questions super quickly, to the incredible COMFORT of this bed. I have been sleeping so well and I don’t even hear my husband when he gets out of bed in the morning because I’m sleeping so deeply. It also helps that this bed has really low motion transfer so I don’t feel him when he gets up either. It’s truly perfect for couples.
Great product, great service. Enough said.
Sleeping on Awara has been unlike any other mattress I’ve experienced. I love going to bed every night knowing that I’m going to wake up feeling refreshed. It’s a vastly different experience than my old mattress and I want to tell everyone about it! Stop living sleep deprived and start living a luxurious life and it doesn’t even cost too much!
Okay so OBVIOUSLY this one is better than our old mattress. We only bought a new one because our old one was so bad. But the thing is, I think there are so many people out there who just don’t realize exactly how bad their mattress really is until they experience a new mattress. The difference is mind boggling. If you have even the smallest inkling that it’s time for a new mattress, make the investment and buy an Awara. You have nothing to lose.
I’m excited to get out of bed each morning because that is how good I feel after sleeping on this new mattress. On top of how amazing it feels and how amazing I feel, can we talk about this company for a second? They deserve a medal for their customer service, because the woman I talked to when I had a concern about my delivery was so helpful that I wrote this review specifically so I could talk about my extremely positive experience with the customer service team. 10/10.
When my partner and I bought the Awara mattress, we weren’t sure we were going to keep it. After a few weeks, we completely changed our minds because we began to adjust to it. Now we are sleeping soundly throughout the night and feel extremely comfortable. If you don’t like it right away, definitely take advantage of the trial period and keep sleeping on it. It may just take your body a bit of time to adjust.
It’s such a strange but wonderful feeling to like, actually feel awake when I wake up in the morning. For so many years I would wake up and just want to go straight back to bed, but for the first time in a long time I’m actually waking up before my alarm! I’m getting excellent sleep and I know it’s because I switched my mattress. Much love and thanks to the Awara team.
This is a cushy and cozy mattress that everyone should try. It’s not too soft though, and would definitely say that it has a medium firmness because it’s still very supportive in all of the right spots. I never thought I’d like anything other than a memory foam mattress, but this hybrid has totally converted me. I love everything about the Awara mattress and will definitely be recommending it to friends and family.
We love this mattress. I was very worried about buying a mattress for my 2 year old because in the past when I've bought traditional mattresses, the off-gassing took months (that was before I knew better about the horrible chemicals in mattresses). My son had a Naturepedic crib mattress and the transition to the Naturepedic twin mattress was a good choice. When the mattress was delivered we set it up in his room and he was able to use it that very night. No off-gassing horrible chemicals, no bad smells. What a relief! I'm very sensitive to chemical smells so I was happy to not have to deal with that here. We started off on the firm side of the mattress for my 2 year old, but it was very hard. He's been sleeping on the firm side for 1 month, but he keeps waking up at night. We also found that he was trying to put his entire body on his pillow, so we thought he would prefer a softer feel. A few days ago we flipped it over to the quilted side and that feels much better. We still need to get a waterproof pad for it, since the quilted side is not waterproof and he's not yet potty-trained. I would not hesitate to purchase this mattress again. It was very expensive, but if he uses it for 10 years, that's only $75/year. Well worth the peace of mind.View More Reviews
I was nervous when I purchased this mattress because many reviews say it is too firm. Is it firm? Yes. Uncomfortable? No. My son went from a conventional plastic-y crib mattress to this mattress. This one is considerably softer and more comfortable. I lay with him at night as he falls asleep, and I am not uncomfortable on the mattress. I have had no complaints. In fact, we are thinking of buying one for each of our other children. This is a great mattress and is one of the most affordable non-toxic mattresses available. It is firm but not uncomfortable. I highly recommend!
This is a fantastic kid's mattress that made for a seamless transition from the Naturepedic crib mattress. If you're unfamiliar with these mattresses and are accustomed to soft, plush "grown-up" mattresses, you may find this too firm or too stark. However, it's perfect for a kid's growing body. There is no worry of off-gassing or chemical smells - it came right out of the box and onto the bed with no airing out time. The waterproof side is great, with a nice texture that is nothing like a plastic-y waterproof pad. This is a high-quality mattress made from high-quality materials that will leave everyone sleeping well at night!
Ordered this mattress after much research and debate. I am happy with my decision. The mattress was not too firm as other reviews remarked, and is actually almost softer than I wanted because I was hoping the firmer the mattress the longer it will last. It is certainly much softer than the 2-sided naturepedic crib mattress. I bought this for my son transitioning to a big boy bed and expect it to last through childhood. I believe it will and it is very comfortable. We are using the waterproof side which I LOVE. It protects the top and sides without having an awful crunchy, noisy sound or feeling. There was a slight natural odor as some commented in reviews but only if you put your nose to the bed and you can't smell it from the waterproof side. Certainly no strong odor or chemical smell. It is expensive, but compared to adult organic, non-toxic mattresses it is much cheaper and I felt was worth the investment for my son's health and my peace of mind.
12/13/2015 Update: After receiving an email from Naturepedic that the mattress I purchased was defective, I ordered a new one. We've had the mattress for about five months now. No issues with lumpiness. However, I feel like the outer trim of the mattress is starting to loose it's shape/looking bent. I don't believe this is normal wear-and-tear because I've never had this issue with my other mattress. =( I was excited to purchase this matress for my toddler as her new big girl bed; however, I was disappointed with the product for a few reasons: 1) I grew up sleeping on very firm mattresses. I prefer them and enjoy them. Although firm, something about this mattress made it quite uncomfortable. It's just too firm. 2) The discomfort of the firm mattress could be that it feels lumpy. It seems like individual springs can be felt while laying on the bed and shifting positions. 3) The waterproof side of the matress seemed loud. The cover was not taught, so when I moved my arms across it, it was as if I was laying on vinyl plastic that can be heard when moving. I purchased a NP crib mattress and had no problems with its quality; however, the twin mattress was a big disappointment. If you have a recommendation for a quality organic mattress, please share.
I never write reviews but I am EXTREMELY disappointed with this mattress. We've had it for just over a year now and we still have not transitioned my toddler to the bed so this mattress has only been slept on a handful of times by the occasional house guest. When we first received this mattress I noticed that it elevated in the center so it almost felt as if you were rolling down hill on either side of the mattress. I thought perhaps this was because it was new and that it would settle down over time but sadly it hasn't. Also the sides of the mattress are sagging. It's almost as if the side of the mattress totally collapses on itself when you sit on it. I flipped the mattress over to the non-potty training side and it weirdly lumpy. I wanted to love this mattress. I paid more for this mattress than I wanted to because I trusted the brand and I definitely wanted an organic mattress. But I'm sad to say that this mattress was not even close to what we were hoping for. We wanted a mattress our toddler could grow up on, now I'm going to have to buy him a new mattress before he even gets a chance to use it.
Since infancy, my now 3 year-old daughter has slept on a Naturepedic crib mattress in her crib and toddler bed. So when she recently transitioned to a twin-sized "big girl" bed (Charleston Solid Hardwood Platform Bed Frame - Twin Size), Naturepedic was our first choice for a mattress that we knew would be free of chemical flame retardants. We opted for the 2-in-1 mattress instead of the single-sided one for $100 cheaper because we knew from experience (with the crib mattress) that it's 100-times easier to wipe up accidents from the waterproof fabric of the mattress itself, than to have to remove a separate mattress pad and throw it in the wash. Plus, many waterproof mattress pads are made of PVC/vinyl, a toxic plastic the emits phthalate fumes that you don't want your child inhaling in their sleep! The waterproof side of the Naturepedic mattress is made of food-grade polyethylene, which is non-toxic and doesn't give off any harmful fumes. Yes, the waterproof side of the mattress is somewhat firm, but not excessively so, and most importantly, my daughter has never complained about being uncomfortable. After all, she spent the first 3+ years of her life sleeping on an ultra-firm crib mattress, so she doesn't know any differently when it comes to sleeping surfaces. Plus, pediatricians recommend a firm mattress for younger kids, whose bones and skeletal structures are still developing. Once my daughter is older (and fully nighttime potty-trained!), we'll flip the mattress over and use the quilted side. This mattress was recently put to the test and passed with flying colors! A few weeks after we bought it, my daughter had an upset stomach in the middle of the night. She threw up a total of 4 times, soaking her pajamas and bed sheets, but the waterproof surface of this Naturepedic mattress completely withstood it all. Each time, all we needed to do was to wipe the surface of the mattress with Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multi-Surface Wipes, 70 Count, change the sheets and put her back to bed. We wouldn't have had enough mattress pads to cope with all the throw-ups that she had. In short, this mattress helped make a rough night a little less difficult for all of us. I highly recommend it. Grade: A
Switching to this mattress stopped an allergic reaction I was having to my memory foam mattress (all the chemicals!). So in that respect, 5 stars. But this mattress is very hard, so I had to buy a latex mattress topper to be able to sleep on it.
My 13 year old wanted a really firm mattress, so we bought him this one. He even wanted the firmer side up. That lasted a day. So we flipped it to the "less firm" side, which was still way too hard. The two sides are board v. Heavy blanket on board. We wound up buying him a 3" featherbed. I still find it too hard, but he likes it now, though, and finds it just right. The featherbed made all the difference.
We purchased this mattress for our now 3 year-old son. I have read that sleeping on an extra firm mattress is good for growing bodies, but I must say that as a mother laying next to him at bedtime, it feels a bit uncomfortable. That being said, our son has never complained, and it has been almost 6 months since he started sleeping on it. Naturepedic has a good price for an organic mattress, so we will simply purchase an organic topper for comfort when he needs it.
I really like the idea of this bed and the fact that it doesn't have most of the nasty chemicals in it that other beds do. That said this is not the most comfortable bed. Its heavy and feels bouncy. My little boy doesn't seem to mind it, but it just isn't that comfortable of a bed.
I hate to give a low rating to a company that makes a matress with little or no fire retardants, but, this mattress was very uncomfortable. It felt like an old crib matress. Even on the softer side of the mattress, you could feel every spring.
Great mattress for our 2 year old. No chemical smells, and nice cleanable surface.
This has been great for my daughter. Feels like a regular mattress. It has held up very well, despite my daughter jumping on it at least weekly, and sometimes with her friends (it is on the floor for safety reasons). I would give it 5 stars if it were cheaper....seemed a little bit more expensive than it needed to be.
This is the second time I have purchased this item and I am very happy with it. As described & well packaged. I would recommend this product and seller.
I have three of these that I have purchased over the years for my three kids. Outstanding quality and complete satisfaction. Never had to offgas it. And sleep comfortably knowing my kids are not exposed to harmful chemicals. This mattress is supported by the environmental working group.
Excellent. Item was purchased for 2 year old. Used on the floor (montessori inspired) with a low profile boxspring. Child sleeps well and I've even fell asleep on it. Very expensive but worth the cost. No odors or new mattress smell.
The bed was purchased for my 3 year old granddaughter because my daughter felt it was important for her to have an organic mattress. We chose this one because it was mid-price and had one waterproof side. Also free shipping with Amazon prime! The bed seems to be very supportive, comfortable and quite dense so I imagine it will hold up well for many years.
Bought this for my 2 year old son. There is no chemical smell with this mattress which is 1 reason why I purchased. My daughters mattress from a regular mattress brand was purchased 3 years ago and still stinks like chemicals when I take the sheets and cover off. This mattress is also great with the waterproof side that actually works and is easy to clean. Comfortable and my son loves it
Not for those with aches and pains, but good for kids! We have a twin and a full size of this brand and are very happy. We also bought real mattress protectors since the mattresses are expensive, but so worth it.
Few people realize the dangerous chemicals in traditional mattresses. It may see like a huge expense to spring for the organic mattress, but it's well worth it knowing that your child is not inhaling toxins while s/he sleeps. As far as organic mattresses go, this one is extremely comfortable. The vendor, "Elephant Ears" I think it was called was excellent and offered free shipping, which saved me $150. This was a very good buy. My baby sleeps like a baby in it.
Excellent quality and finish. Perfect for toddler transitioning from naturepedic infant mattress.
Fits great for a 3 year old. No smell as others stated
This mattress is great. We don't think it is at all hard as other reviewers have complained. If you want a super deep pillow top type mattress then this probably isn't the one for you, but for a high quality, comfortable, basic organic mattress this one fits perfectly.
Love Naturepedic! Wish they made a king size!!
I bought these for my twins after they grew out of their cribs. I had also used Naturepedic mattresses in their cribs. These mattresses are comfortable and reasonably priced for organic, chemical free mattresses. I would always recommend this brand and will buy this brand for my bed when it's time to replace our current mattress.
Fabulous bed! Zero odor, soft Quilting, natural materials.
Great service, love these mattresses. Hopefully it lasts 20 years!
A little bit too hard on one side.
I bought two of these mattresses for my daughters (age 7 and 11) thinking that the the firmness shouldn't be an issue for bodies as light as they are. I love the fact that they are organic, and that they have a water proof side which is good for the earlier, bed-wetting ages. However, they are so hard that my daughters complain about them. I tried a thin topper, and that didn't work. I eventually bought a 3 inch organic foam topper for one of the mattresses and that did the trick for my older daughter. However, the cost worked out such that I would have been better off getting an organic foam mattress to start with.
Great mattress, a little on the firm side which is what I was looking for.
I bought this mattress because it was chemical-free, and I feel really good about that. I thought it was hypoallergenic, but when I received it, noticed that it had side vents. When I called the company about this, they tried to tell me that dust mites stay on the top layer only, so they offered a mattress pad. I'm a physician, and I wasn't happy with that response. I had to buy an additional hypoallergenic cover. It's nice that one side is waterproof, and the other side cottony. I've had the mattress for about a year now for my two year old. It sagged a bit immediately, and the top layer is a bit loose. These are made on a one-by-one basis, and made to order, so I guess that's ok. I thought this would last him 'til high school, but now I'm not so sure. It hurts my back to sleep on it because it's rather firm. After a year, it seems to have an odd-rice-homey sort of smell. Not sure I would buy again because of the price. Maybe all natural/chemical free mattresses sag?! I gave it four stars instead of three because at the time of purchase, there were not a lot of options out there for safer mattresses.
This is our second Naturepedic twin mattress, and we've also purchased multiple crib mattresses. We always love them, and feel good about our kids burying their faces in this organic, harsh-chemical free mattress. I read through the reviews, but have to disagree that this mattress is too firm, at least, not for a child. I bought it for my preschooler, and little kids often use firmer mattresses. I've fallen asleep on it multiple times and think it's fine, and my kids sleep well on these. I love that one side is water-proof for now, and that we can flip it over for a softer side for when the kids are a bit older. I have no complaints at all. UPDATE: At age 6, my son did start to complain that his mattress was too hard. It was wonderful to be able to simply flip his mattress over from the water-proof side to the softer side and please him without having to buy a new mattress! I also have to add that Naturepedic stands behind their lifetime guarantee. After less than 6 months, a spring had somehow rotated itself sideways in our second of these mattresses and was poking to the side. We don't know why or how this happened, but we wrote to Naturepedic and sent them pictures, and they immediately sent us a new mattress. No charge, no hassle. Very, very pleased.
It was pretty weird to buy a mattress online, but I had no luck finding a local store that sold organic (or just non-toxic) mattresses. I really wanted my son to have a mattress that wouldn't be harmful to his health. This one fits the bill, and it seems to be the least expensive option out there. The manufacturer's own website has it listed for $100 more than Amazon, plus they charge $75 shipping. I was pleased with Amazon's price and the free shipping (from Pennsylvania to California, no less!) The mattress is firm, but comfortable. My 3-year-old son has been sleeping just fine on it. I took a nap on it one day, and I noticed it was firmer than my own mattress.... but I slept just fine.
I really wanted to love this mattress. Organic was a priority for me and when reading the reviews it seemed perfect. Unfortunately, the mattress I received is hollow. There is absolutely no support in the middle of this mattress and if an adult was to lay on it, it caves dramatically in the center. I have no idea if my particular mattress is defective but I am definitely disappointed in the product.
I did a lot of research on mattresses and the incidences of sids when my daughter was born, and ultimately went with an organic crib mattress. When it came time to getting her a big girl bed, I had a very hard time finding full organic mattresses. Not one store in my entire city sells them. So I turned online, and researched every brand I could find. I needed an organic mattress that was not based with latex, and so many of them are. I'm allergic to latex, and fear my daughter will eventually share that allergy. Naturepedic is the brand I continued to come back to, as the best option on the market. Expensive, yes, but there are others that are far more, and none that are less that are made of cotton and not latex. What made me hesitate the most in my purchase is the reviews that said the mattress was too firm. I looked into organic mattress toppers that could help with that, but even those were a small fortune. Finally, I decided to go with this mattress. So glad I did, excellent choice. It is NOT too firm or too hard, it's extremely comfortable. It's possible that they made changes since some of these reviews were posted, to make it less hard. I have a terrible back & hip, and this mattress is comfortable to me. My daughter absolutely melts into it, and sleeps wonderfully! It had zero smell when we opened it - no off gassing, no need to air it out at all. When reading reviews, read the newest ones first. Because I think changes were made to this mattress to make it even better. For us, it's a non-toxic, organic, comfortable, odorless option for a mattress. I really think this one is your best bet!
I was slightly worried about ordering this mattress after reading a couple of reviews stating it was rock hard. I went ahead and ordered it anyway because my daughter has chemical sensitivities, and this was the least expensive, safest option I could find for her. I am happy to report that this mattress, while firm, is indeed comfortable enough- I actually fell asleep while laying with my daughter at bedtime and had a very restful night. My back and hips also felt great when I woke. My daughter slept like a rock and didn't stir until morning. I also noticed that, while I am usually a mouth breather when I sleep, it was very easy for me to breathe through my nose last night. This could be due to the newness of the mattress and the absence of dust mites, but I think the lack of chemicals is probably a contributing factor (I usually start sneezing whenever I walk into a store that sells new furniture because of the off-gassing chemicals). My daughter's nose seemed to stay clear as well. This was a big expenditure for us, but I'm glad we did it because now we have peace of mind that our little girl has a healthy place to sleep until she reaches adulthood. When we can afford it, I'd love to get a Naturepedic for the master bedroom as well.
