Aireloom is a brand of California based E.S. Kluft & Company that is sold exclusively in mattress retailers across the US. Its claim to fame is their patented 'Aireloom lift' that increases the areas of low pressure when one is laying on the mattress. This gives the sense that the bed is cradling you. However, there are common complaints about the mattress's durability and some claim that it sags over time. Additionally, price is a potential issue with the brand as their prices are much higher than competitive brands.
Hypnos beds are a British brand that export their mattresses to the United States and globally. They specialize in luxury pocketspring mattresses with natural and sustainable bedding, including wool, cotton, and other fabrics. Additionally, they have a Royal Warrant, which is an official recognition of excellence in bedding. If you are looking for a regal experience, this brand has you covered. But with all of that royal flair, these beds come with an exorbitant price tag.
Based on our aggregated reviews and our scoring method, we recommend Hypnos in this match up!
If you are considering this brand, take a look below for more from customers Sadly, they don't get the best reception from all customers. Some were perfectly satisfied with their mattress, but others had complaints about their comfort.
You may think of supportive mattresses as mostly firm, but when we mention support, we're talking about materials that properly align the body. Most customers have rated this mattress well on its support, but there is the occasional complaint about the feel.
Overall, these mattresses have good quality edge support, which ideal for those that sit on the side of the bed or roll over towards the edge at night.
Bowling Ball & Density Tests
The bowling ball test is useful for discovering if a mattress is evenly supportive. These mattresses provide a good amount of support for the average sleeper, but there are a select few who may experience discomfort.
Having a mattress that lasts is one of the most important factors to sleepers. We all want to find a mattress that is just as cozy as it was day 1 on day 1001. Unfortunately, not all sleepers have felt that these mattresses were durable enought for them. If you are considering using as your full time mattress, read the reviews to make sure that it will match your body type before buying.
Customer satisfaction isn't all that simple to figure out for the average shopper, especially with brands managing their online reputation closely. That said, customers report feeling comfortable with these mattresses overall. However, there were some who didn't appreciate the feel. so take a look at the research below to make sure one of these mattresses will work for you!
Mattress support is the secret to waking up refreshed in the morning. You don't want somehthing that will sag or cause your back to warp. These mattresses provide the kind of support that works with your body.
For those folks that like to sit or lie close to the side of the mattress, edge support is very important. These mattresses do a well with edge support and don't sag too much on the edges.
Bowling Ball & Density Tests
A fun things for reviewers, the bowling ball test is a good indicator of firmness and contouring, but also of support. If the mattress doesn't provide even support, some may experience some issues with the mattress. Luckily, these mattresses have good ratings here and shouldn't have that as a problem.
Companies that focus on quality control and testing will more than likely build durable mattresses. Companies may have disagreements with sleepers if they don't invest in these attributes. Unfortunately, customers have mixed feedback on these mattresses on durability. Some have reported finding a good night's sleep, but others have complaints about discomfort over a short time. Make sure to do a last check on the reviews before purchasing.
BI have had my Rip Van Winkle Natural Dreams with Luxury Cashmere King bed for 12 years. Many could say that is a long life span however I would like to provide long term customer experience details. Extreme sagging from year 1. Called Sealy's where purchased and they came out and said natural use. Ridiculous. Offered me store credit of $1000 on a $5000 King Mattress.
2. This mattress is so darn heavy that it would take 3-4 strong adults to move it (I've moved 4 times in 12 years...everyone says it's the heaviest mattress to move)
3. After point 2 was made, can you imagine flipping and rotating this bed on your own? It takes 2 adults and still is ridiculous.
4. In addition to sagging it forms to your body so to speak so after 3 years it has looked like a body shape of a 200 lb woman and hump in the middle and a less dented body shape of a 160lb man. This causes lots of cumbersome rotating & flippingwhich is very difficult.
5. I've reached my life span of a $5000 (price paid on sale) mattress with a 25 year warranty after 12 years.
6. I'm currently mattress shopping and can buy a new Sealy for 1/3 of the price and not care if lasts 5-7 years.
Bought a aireloom mattress 6 months ago from sit and sleep. Worst mattress I have ever owned. Sags so bad that I wake up with a backache every morning. Sis and sleep well not do a thing about it
My husband and I have never been so cozy comfortable. We have the split king with adjustable base.
I immediately was relieved from hip pain that I had from a fairly new Temperpedic mattress.
The only complaint we have is: WE DON'T WANT TO GET OUT OF BED IN THE MORNING.
We purchased our Aireloom Chantille Ultra Plush Euro Top Eastern King mattress from Mancini's in Mountain View, CA., Nov. 2012. What had sold us on spending $8101.00 on a mattress was that when we tested it in the showroom we did not feel the movement of our partner. For us, who are light sleepers, this is a major deal. Our body was supported and it was very comfortable. A bit too high for us, so we exchanged the tall box spring for one that was several inches shorter.
We received that mattress and straight away there was a problem. Not Mancini's problem, we would need to contact an independent inspector (Premier Inspection Services,LTD.), at our expense, to analyze the mattress and make a recommendation. He did, and basically said that the problem was in our head.
Here it is 2016 and the mattress still does not live up to the mattress that we tested in the showroom. The shape is trapezoidal, and we feel every movement that our partner makes. Rolling over, change in position, sneezing and coughing are all felt by the other.
We feel gypped and misled. How could we have been so stupid. We could have purchased a cheaper mattress and changed it out when it no longer was comfortable.
We initially bought a tempurpedic based on many recommendations. 30 days later and my back was an absolute mess. I could hardly move and I was at the chiropractor 6 times in 30 days. The chemical smell was horrible and I was sweating my butt off. My wife could not bear to sleep in it. I even had my kids jump on it to try to 'break it in'.
So, we went back to the store and the sales person was very helpful in assisting with the problems that we were having. My wife stumbled across the Aireloom mattresses and suggested I try it out. I fell in love with the support and comfort immediately. The price kind of scared me initially, but with 30 days of hell behind me, I was up for anything. I like the fact that there are many 'real' materials in this mattress and it is not a cookie cutter mattress made out of chemicals. The delivered the mattress promptly and our first night was heaven. Support, cool and comfort. We noticed immediately that when the two of us were in the middle of the bed, there was considerable sag to the mattress. I was kind of perplexed by this until I was on the floor playing with our dog and my wife and kids were horsing around in the bed. I noticed that there was significant flex in the box spring support slats when they were rolling around on the bed. Being an amish bed frame, the box is supported by 3/4 inch oak slats that run from side to side. I made up support blocks positioned under the slats in the middle of the bed and the problem was rectified. This bed is as comfortable today as it was the day we bought it.
This is so interesting....A couple of years ago, my mom gave me her brand new, Aireloom Hybrid Bamboo mattress as she decided to purchased a different size (mine is a queen). I live in an older building, and there is a place in my bedroom floor where it's uneven, so when I started to feel like I had to roll uphill to turn over in bed, I figured it was the floor, not the mattress; however, my handyman used his balance to show me that the floor underneath my bed is indeed level, which was so baffling to me, as I feel as though I am sleeping in a ditch when I am on my side of the bed.
I have a solid platform bed, with storage drawers, so it can't be chalked up to an unsteady base or bed frame. I stumbled upon this site accidentally this evening, while researching mattresses, and am now 100% convinced that my mattress is to blame, and I am not crazy.
Not only that, but the mattress weighs about a million pounds, and sits inside the platform, so that changing the fitted sheet is akin to a strenuous gym workout. Just lifting the mattress is ridiculous. Once, while lifting the corner, I felt the fabric tear, on the underside of the mattress.
My mom kept telling me how expensive the mattress was, that it was a really good mattress. I can't lie; it's super cushy and comfortable, but the sagging is beyond annoying. I have propped it up under one side with books/magazines to even it out, but I can promise you I won't be spending my own money on an aireloom, when I am ready to replace this one.
When we tried this bed in the store my husband felt very comfortable as soon as he laid on it. I felt like it was a little firm, but thought I could get use to it. From the first night it has been a nightmare for both of us. We are exhausted! My back, shoulders, hips ache. It has gotten so bad after two weeks I have gone to the spare bedroom. My husband is not sleeping well and it feels like only after two weeks there is already a body impression on his side of the bed. He feels that the bed sleeps hot. I have not noticed that yet. Very disappointed overall.
Do not even think of buying an airloom bed. We bought one from Macys in Oceanside. It began to sag within about a month or two.
Made the mistake of waiting too long to call the company. You have 90 days. After that, they came out and agreed that it sagged , but since it wasn't over an inch and a half they would not take it back. Actually the bed sagged an inch and the box spring sagged another 1/2 inch which equals the 1 1/2 inches but since the box spring was involved they would not take it back. Macy's refused to help. We sold the bed less than a year later with over a $3000.00 loss.
My advice is do not get involved with Airloom.
I purchased an Aireloom Mattress. The store that I bought it from no longer carries Aireloom. The inspector from the independent inspection company determined that the mattress failed. Originally, Linda Menzel from Aireloom wanted me to spend about $1420 to ship the mattress to California from New Jersey and back. When I pointed out that they had a plant in PA, Ms. Menzel stated that it would cost $620 to ship the mattress to and from PA.
When I accepted their offer to ship the mattress to PA, Aireloom wanted me to sign an agreement not to disparage as well as waive any future legal rights. After questioning Ms. Menzel, she stated that even if the mattress were defective when it was returned to me, I could not sue Aireloom. By adding the requirement of not to disparage and to waive all future rights, they violated the terms of their warranty and thus defrauded me.
In my opinion, Aireloom is a terrible company to deal with because they do not honor their warranty. If they did this to me, do you think they will treat you any differently?
I bought an aireloom mattress from OC mattress in Costa Mesa CA. Was told when I bought this that there was no memory foam, but alas this was untrue. After purchase I noticed heat retention and complained to the store and manufacturer. Found out that it contained 7% memory foam. After several months have noticed sagging and 'holes.'' Paid lots of money and disappointed. Would not recommend.
If you're researching a new mattress please read the above reviews and DO NOT buy an Aireloom product. Like the others above have written within weeks my wife and I found our new mattress to be forming deep depressions. We called Aireloom and they sent an inspector and the results were that the 'holes' were within expected body depressions. That's the last Aireloom I'll ever buy. Absolute junk.
3 years ago my husband and I made the trek out to our local mattress retailer. We were buying two mattresses - one for personal use and the other for a duplex for our parents. Decided on two Sertas when at the last moment.....I spotted the Aireloom. I had to test it and I fell in love. It was the most comfortable bed I had ever tried! But alas, the honeymoon period ended and we were left with a mattress that had some serious sagging issues after only 3 years. Some might say that is a good life for a mattress but I have to point out the only two other mattresses we have purchased for personal use lasted at least 10 years each and with no sagging. We only replaced them because we wanted to try newer models. Aireloom - I wanted to love you! Love you for being handmade, being the cushiest bed on the showroom floor, for being the sexiest in looks and for being handmade in CA. Sorry but I can love you no more. Moving on to a new lover.
I wish I had ready reviews like these before spending over $3000 on our Aireloom in 2012. We expected this mattress to last 20-25 years. When we first got the mattress I couldn't have been more satisfied. It was firm, supportive and so good for my bad back recovering from surgery. Within a few months I noticed I was making a sag in the bed. I tried moving around in the bed more and that helped for a while but now my husband and I are so miserable sleeping in this bed that we can't wait to replace it. We have flipped it end to end but I'd rather return to an old fashioned innerspring mattress that I can flip over. It just makes sense that with more sleeping surface the mattress will last longer. I will for sure NEVER spend $3K on a mattress again.
I have had a real problem with sciatica over the last couple of years. While this mattress has not prevented it, better body pressure distribution seems to have really helped. I don’t wake up in the AM tired and feeling achey.
Macy's was a pleasure to work with throughout and the mattress has been very comfortable so far.
We had been looking for a new mattress for over 2 years, and finally landed on the Airloom Hybrid. Already on the first night, I noticed when I woke up in the middle of the night, my hip and shoulder pain I would typically feel before I rolled to the other side was gone! This mattress really takes the pressure off.
I took my time to find the right bed for my needs and really liked the Aireloom Hybrid. When I returned to buy it, my salesperson was tied up with another customer so that allowed me a good half hour to lie on the bed to make sure it was the one for me. Within 2 weeks of owning the mattress I noticed it wasn't springing back into shape. I've only owned it a month now and it has such deep depressions from my body (and I'm only 5' tall and 115 lbs!) that it feels almost as uncomfortable as my old mattress and is hurting my back. I've informed the salesperson I worked with that I'll be returning this one and hoping she can find something that will work as well as I hoped the Aireloom would. Highly disappointed.
Tried this bed 3 times at Macy’s laid on it , sales women was great she recommended this bed I looked at a few in mac
We tried 3 different mattresses in 3 months before picking this one. The others were either too firm or too soft, but this one was absolutely perfect. Plush, but with the right amount of support. Finally getting the best nights sleep. Waking up feeling rested, and not sore. If you are picky about your mattress, this is the one to try....you wont regret it.
Love this mattress, so comfortable, soft, best sleep in a long time.
Shopping for a new mattress had turned into a nightmare, between pop up stores and online beds in a box/bag I'd given up. Then I thought Macy's that were my parents would go. Our salesman was great listened to our needs and pointed us to several options, gave us the time we needed to decide. Delivery and set up was a breeze. Great mattress! ! Love it.
Very comfortable, conforms to body for a comfortable night sleep. I have spinal problems and this has been a big help. It lets me toss and turn with no problems. I tried many mattress' in the store, and this one worked. The salesman was wonderful it took us 2 hours and many jumping from mattress to mattress, his patience was above and beyond.
My purchase could not have been accomplished without the help of the OUTSTANDING Members of the Macy's team in San Francisco at Union Square. Their care and attention to my unique needs and wishes got this very important purchase accomplished. Lili Spagnoletta helped me this time and with my previous mattress over 15 years ago. For this purchase she got her Customer Service Manager Lori to help secure financing options. They Really Care!
We tested out this bed in the store and it was, by far, the most comfortable! We tried at least a dozen beds that were 5X the cost and this one was the best. The delivery was seamless and we can't wait to sleep on this tonight!
Took a couple of days to get use too, since I was sleeping on a mattress over 20 years old. Now I love it, and would definitely recommend it. Also had great delivery service on a very hot day!
It's firm and yet soft. Very comfortable! Great Buy!
It’s been exactly one year since purchase. Have called for questionablydefect internally. Mattress sags on one side causing excessive backache for me yet other side is firm. My weight 215 lbs. we purchased for a it being firm and king size. Compared to a foam inner coil mattress purchased in 2003, now 2019, this mattress is better built and low indentation of body points on bed. For the Airloom, I have to wake up completely to turn over. Yet when testing was done on Airloom, it was visually different between side and what measurement that was taken only involved a string pulled taught across mattress and a card with lines drawn to distinguish body indentation. There wasn’t any weighted pressure on points where indents were to measure any foam or spring collapse. I have now received letter from company I purchased from saying it meets standards under warranty. I’m doing a follow up for better practices to measure internal, not visual, of mattress. Over $4000 spent with less than 1 year of use. My queen foam/coil mattress after 16 years outperforms the Airloom and my back doesn’t hurt.
I have owned my Aireloom mattress for about 11 years. I called and emailed customer service and never received an answer. After 3 weeks of trying, I finally reached someone who was extremely rude. I weigh 110 pounds and the indentation of my body is so deep that I can't move at night. When I asked if they have any kind of warranty they said they can't guaranty anything, without asking what the problem is. I would not suggest purchasing this procuct
I really wanted to love my AIRLOOM CORONADO mattress. I wanted to support the local California business and own a handcrafted bed. But what happened is that I wasted $5000 and now have a giant piece of trash in my bedroom that I have to dispose of. After only 4 months, I noticed the mattress was starting to sag but I didn't despair because the mattress has a warranty. But this is just a scam because it took multiple phone calls and emails to get Airloom to send out a mattress inspector. This inspector makes all the movements of performing an inspection, taking measurements and photos. But, in the end, Airloom does nothing. Like other unfortunate customers, I will be returning to the mattress store to purchase something with a better reputation.
I decided to buy one of these after a friend of mine from bridge club told me about how wonderful they are. I was impressed by their connection to the Royal family. Unfortunately, the bed hasn't been what I expected. I wake up with back pain and think it is because of that bed -- way too firm.View More Reviews
went to a store yesterday that had both Hypnos and Vi-Spring. Hypnos was WAY too firm...solid like a rock.
Was gifted one of these by my company and it was okay for what I would consider a luxury brand. It is a bit firm, but I like my beds firm.
I've had this bed for the past 3 months and it is divine. I highly recommend it.
I was able to get one of these Hypnos beds and I have finally been able to sleep through the night again.
Something is wanting in this mattress, but I can't put my finger on it. I was very impressed by their branding and acclaim, and was hopeful that this would what my sleep needed. But, I'm still not sure.
This was my big investment and it was definitely worth it. The materials are very high quality and there has been no off-gassing or any other negatives that you would get from the trendy brands. This was for me.
I was expecting more of a luxury feel after spending so much money on my new mattress. Is it ok? Sure. But, when you shell out this kind of money, you are hoping for amazing. That is not how I feel.
A wonderful luxury bed. I sleep like a regent every night.
A hefy investment, but well worth it in the end. I love this new bed and so does my husband. No complaints.
both my wife and I are not large people, we purchased a very expensive Hypnos mattress with a topper and within a month and a half it was already sagging. I rotated it every week for six weeks and then every two weeks thereafter to no avail. The mattress now has two half moon shapes on either side and a big ridge in the middle. Furniture Village sent someone round to evaluate it and they said it had not sagged enough for a refund! Do not waste your money on this mattress.
This is the worse mattress that we have ever slept in, we paid £3000 for just the mattress and it feels like it's been slept in for years and we have only had it one month. Hypnos and living homes where we bought the mattress have sent people out to test the mattress, they laid on it for 20 seconds and said there is nothing wrong with it, we are waking every morning with back aches. We were swayed by the Royal warrants and the write up by Hypnos that it's the 'best bed in the world' in our opinion it's the worse. They won't accept our feelings and basically said there is nothing they can do! But we could go to the Furniture ombudsmen! (Nice customer service)! Anyway good luck if you buy one.
Very comfortable mattress. Slept on it directly on floor for two nights over Christmas and slept very soundly both nights.
Backache gone! I love this mattress. Best one I've bought. Highly recommend.
Absolutely love this matteres, it provides great support while the pillow top makes you feel like you're sleeping on a cloud. This matteres also seems to keep the body temperature in check so no sweaty or cold nights in bed - just heavenly!
Best sleep for years. Only 'downside' is the overall thickness. Some fitted bed linen may not fit, but non-fitted sheets, no problem.
Really comfortable mattress!! love it...could sleep all day :)
Bought this mattress from Nottingham Store a week ago and told that it would feel slightly firmer on our existing base. The mattress has dipped already taking our body shape and the buttons on the pillow top dig into your spine and hips. This is the most uncomfortable mattress we've ever slept on.
Amazing Quality mattress, great comfort, worth spending on it !
Upgraded to a Hypnos mattress. Don't regret the decision at all. Best night sleep ever. Mattress worth every penny!
We bought this bed after having slept on a Hypnos bed in a luxury hotel. The price reflects the fact that it is a quality product, made in Britain. The recommendation is for a pure cotton mattress protector, which costs about £35. It is a very comfortable mattress, though it quickly forms small hollows where you lie, which we hadn't expected. Also you need to regularly turn it round - not easy as you get older!
Bought this mattress after recommendation from a friend and after reading the comments from other customers and I must say that I was not disappointed at all. Really good quality mattress and extremely comfortable to sleep on.
It took a few nights to get used to these new mattresses but now we really like them. The inclusive fabric topper gives the fairly firm mattress a lovely cosy feel. My troublesome back also feels well supported and comfortable. I thought I would miss my feather topper but I don't - and really wouldn't exchange it for anything else!
My wife and I have never slept so well since we took delivery of this mattress - we are very happy with this purchase.
Found it firmer than it felt in store & was starting to have doubts, but glad to report its now nice & comfy. As always with a mattress, you must try before buying. Now very happy with purchase.
Very comfortable mattress and ease to turn with good sized strong handles
The choice of a new mattress is something which is very individual so it is difficult to recommend to someone else. However, this mattress is made of natural fibres, it is firm without being uncomfortable. We bought it to replace our old mattress and we had no difficulty in adjusting to this new one. The quality of the materials is very high and I thought the name Hypnos had a good reputation for quality and good value. We thought the price was reasonable for a mattress of this quality.
Really comfortable mattress and great quality. Extra topping makes a real difference.
After a disastrous purchase only four years ago, we just had to replace our mattress. My son and daughter in law had discovered the true comfort of the Hypnos superb pillow top and couldn't have recommended it more. We went on their advice and now I feel the need to tell them how pleased we are with ours at every opportunity!!! We are now working on the rest of the family!
This is supremely comfortable and supportive, with a soft top layer to take the edge off the firmness. I have lower back pain, and this mattress really does help - it adjusts nicely to the shape of one's body and is very accommodating when (as with us) two people of significantly different sizes and weights sleep on the same surface. Despite the intake of breath when I saw the price, it is definitely worth it - no need to spend even more: this is truly excellent.
It's ckearly a quality product - but I probably wouldn't choose it again. But firm for me at only 10 stone. The top quilt but also makes me too hot
After 6 weeks in hospital I was left with a sore lower back. The Hypnos matters enable me to have the 8 hours of sleep I was used to.
This is an amazing mattress that was instantly comfortable! Although it is technically a firm mattress, it does not feel firm because it is so cushioned.
The Hypnos mattress is superbly comfortable and well made and it helps to have a ten year guarantee.
Was suffering from back and neck pain so decided it was time for a new mattress and this has been perfect!
Excellent mattress and base with (optional) 4-drawer storage. We've never slept so well! Polite delivery guys set the whole thing up and took away the old bed. Service as it should be. I haven't regretted making this purchase for a second.
I bought the mattress, that cost a lot of money, having been assured that I would and could be assured of a good nights sleep, especially given that I had back problems. The pillow topping I was assured was the ultimate in comfort on top of the firm mattress. What a mistake, the 'buttons' used to secure the topping to the mattress are right on a line with your hip and lower back, so no matter whether you lay on your right or left side or on your back, these 'buttons' intrude and press on that part of your body, meaning you have constant pressure from the item and giving you/me discomfort. Because I had to be away from home for a while I have now missed the 'return' date.
We'd expected that the mattress would need time to settle, but from the very first night it was very comfy and supportive without being hard or lumpy. The comfort topper is just enough to relax in to. It's heavy to turn, but that isn't surprising.Have never (as yet after 5 months) woken up with a sore back, which is unheard of for me. Great quality at a reasonable price.
Mattress-firm, ultra supportive mattress. Pillow top gives a soft feel but may limit longevity however ten year guarantee gives peace of mind. Side stitching means no sagging at the ends. Quality product.
I purchased 2 of these for 2 new bedrooms. What an amazing mattress! The mattress is the best i have ever slept on and would recommend anyone to purchase one.
