Zinus's Specifics

Quality of Materials

Zinus manufactures three different types of mattresses: memory foam, innerspring, and hybrid (memory foam and spring) mattresses. Zinus manufactures extremely affordable mattresses and uses affordable materials. Most of these beds are not manufactured in the United States.

The pros: The mattresses are extremely affordable and most are CertiPUR-US rated so shouldn't off-gas nasty toxins.

The cons: Medium to low grade materials and craftmanship, and most not made in USA.

Mattress Types

We'll go through each of the Zinus lines in detail.

Memory Foam

Zinus offers a variety of memory foam offerings for a very affordable pricepoint. They offer different mattress heights for additional softness. Their most popular 12'' memory foam Green Tea mattress is made up of the following: 3'' Green Tea infused memory foam, 2'' transitional comfort foam, and two layers of 3.5'' perforated high density foams.

The pros of this mattress line are its extremely affordable prices and select infused bio-foams.

The cons are that reviewers report quicker sagging and bedding breakdown with these mattresses and also that they sleep warm.

Price Range: $95-$700

Final Score: 7.6 / 10

iCoil

The iCoil mattresses are made with pocket coils. Above their pocket coils are thin layers of foam or a pillow top. Here is what's in their most popular 13'' Euro Top iCoil: foam and quilted cover, 2 layers of comfort foam, 1 layer of high density foam over the pocket coils. Then there are hundreds of 7.5'' pocket coils.

The pros: Extremely reasonable price for a pocket coil system.

The cons: Reviewers mention that there is sagging over a shorter time than average.

Price Range: $91-$455

Final Score: 7.8 / 10

Hybrid

The Zinus hybrid is very similar to the iCoil line, but has gel memory foam and latex above the pocket coil system. Here is what's in their most popular 14'' hybrid: 1.25'' comfort foam, 2'' fusion gel memory foam, 2 layers of layex (1.5'' and 1'' layers), .5'' high density foam, and 7.25'' pocket coil system over .5'' of high density foam to keep things in place.

The pros: very high profile hybrid mattress with amazing amounts of layers.

The cons: Some have reported that these mattresses have broken down quickly.

Price Range: $550-$715

Final Score: 7.9 / 10

Mold on the bottom of mattress

I purchased this bed 9 months ago and just turned it over to find mold all over the bottom of the mattress. It could only have come from the mattress because there isn't any mold anywhere else in my entire home. The company refuses to do anything about it saying it could be from an outside source. But how could the mold only be on the mattress and not even the box spring or anything else? I don't know how long there has been mold but there is a good amount so obviously a while. This has been making me sick and my allergies horrible. Last night was the first night without the mattress and I didn't wake up with a headache, my nose wasn't stopped up, and my throat didn't hurt. I feel disgusted that I have been sleeping on mold and that the company didn't care at all. I wish I never bought this mattress. These pictures show the mold with and without the mattress protector.
