Cocoon by Sealy are Sealy's answer to the disruptive mattress in a box brands that have been so popular over the past two years. They offer two mattresses, both a variety of memory foams, a 'Chill' version and a regular version with a soft and a firm version. Through their massive brand awareness and mattress store connections, it is no doubt that some of the disrupters are concerned about their mattress in a box entry.
Cocoon by Sealy offers two mattresses with a 10'' profile, the Classic and the Chill (for extra cooling) in a firm and a soft version. We'll go through the differences.
Layer 1: In all their beds, they have a woven cover made of a polyester blend. The Chill version has an additional phase change blend, which diffuses body heat at the cover level.
Layer 2: In both versions they have 2'' of memory foam to provide contouring.
Layer 3: This is where the difference between the firm and soft comes in. The soft has a 2'' of transitional foam, while the firm has 8'' of base material.
Layer 4: While the firm version is done at this point, the soft version has an additional 6'' of base foam.
Most agree that this mattress has a comfortable feel, though there are some complaints about the softness and quality of materials.
Cocoon's two different firmness levels are on the firmer side for lighter sleepers, but some heavier sleepers may feel like they are sinking in the soft mattress.
The soft version of this mattress is a medium firm to light to medium build folks and should help with back pain. For those that are heavier, the firm should be a good option.
The Cocoon Chill's cover will provide a cooling surface for the first few minutes, but for those that are extremely warm, this may not be enough to solve heat retention.
For those that are looking for a medium to firm mattress, are medium to light build, and are not warm sleepers.
At first, I was skeptical about memory foam. We have been using a pillow top mattress for years, and seldom used anything else. Me and my husband have consequently been suffering from back pain for years, and realized a change was long overdue. When we received the mattress, it was rolled up and vacuum sealed in a box, so my first impression was that it would be too thin to fit our bed. But, after removing the plastic wrap and waiting not even 10 minutes, it expanded tremendously, and was very entertaining for my children. I initially thought that the mattress would be too soft for us, but the bed contains just enough firmness to be comfortable, yet just enough softness to create envy from my family whenever they sit on it (which is very often!). After the first week in years with much less back pains and a full nights sleep, we knew that we'd never look back. This is a mattress that pays for itself, and a purchase that will not be wished away. I highly recommend Cocoon by Sealy. 5 stars all around!View More Reviews
I was a bit skeptical about the new Cocoon mattress. However, my initial impression changed when we started unpacking the mattress. First, it was very easy to unpack and set-up. It's compact and slid out of the box easily and was easy to unroll onto the box spring. It took a minute to find out where to rip the plastic exterior bag but once we did that we were in business. It was much easier to get out of the bag and into place than the previous mattresses; it just isn't as bulky or doesn't seem as heavy as traditional mattresses. The mattress is a bit thinner than our previous mattress but I haven't found that to matter. I don't think it really requires the extra deep sheets to cover it even though that is what we used on it. I prefer a bit of a softer mattress and my husband prefers the opposite. However, I find sometimes with soft mattresses that they are too soft to the point where if you are on the edge of the bed, you feel like the mattress will collapse. In this case, I ordered the soft mattress hoping it would work out and have been very happy with it. The top of the mattress is like memory foam which makes it fit my need for a soft mattress but the under part is firmer which gives the support of a firm mattress and makes the mattress feel seem more stable. I'm not sure how this will last long term but for now it is quite nice. The mattress incredibly comfortable to sleep on and I have found that I can't feel the other person if they roll around in the bed. This isn't always something I have experienced with other mattresses and so have really appreciated that quiet feeling. Overall, this mattress has made for some great sleeping and I would definitely purchase it for other bedrooms in our house.
I'm used to big, bulky mattresses. The Cocoon is much lighter. I used to sleep on a pillow top. The Cocoon is even softer. I feel so cradled in it.
I like the mattress. I feel great in the morning but I prefer more firmer than the current one. Sealy made good mattresses for over decades. The texture and the thickness makes you feel comfortable when you sleep. I would recommend for anyone who's looking to sleep tight at night. If you are super heavy person this mattress is not for you.
The only thing that I would say is that the soft mattress is really a medium. I would have preferred an actual soft mattress, but this one isn't a bad mattress and we are sleeping much better on this new mattress than our old one.
Nice and comfortable- came on time and setup easily
It's pretty nice.
I like the idea of the bed in a box. I was very excited about trying the Sealy Cocoon Mattress. The box was extremely heavy, but it was well packed and easy to set up. The bed is surprisingly soft and comfortable.
I've been sleeping on my new mattress for a week. I purchased a firm mattress and can feel a wonderful difference in my body. I suffer from low back and hip pain. I've woken up each morning pain free. Two thumbs up!! I want to purchase a second one for my daughter so I'm hoping Sealy will offer me a returning customer discount.
WE GOT THE FIRM MATTRESS AND WERE A LITTLE SKEPTICAL BECAUSE IT WAS A LITTLE SOFT ON TOP...BUT WE WERE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED....VERY COMFORTABLE.....WE LOVE IT !
I've been sleeping on my new Cocoon mattress, and I think its been helping me sleep better than I have in a long time! The mattress came in a box and seemed very 'small' at first glance. Once we opened the box up onto our bed, it expanded into a full size mattress within a few minutes. The first night the mattress was way too firm for our liking, but I realize that mattresses (memory foam in general) need to be broken in. After a couple of days of sleeping on the Cocoon, I've been sleeping harder, and with much less movement than I normally do. I also can feel the movement of my sleeping partner significantly less than my previous, non- memory foam mattress. I haven't noticed being particularly cool or warm while sleeping yet, but my husband has mentioned that he felt it was cool for a foam mattress. All of this has definitely helped me sleep very well since I got it!
I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5, because the depth of the mattress is a bit more thin than I prefer. Now my nightstands seem too high! Also, I like to read in bed and it still seems a bit firm to really do that comfortably, but that might change with some more time. Other than that, so far, we like it more than our old mattress!
It was amazing to think a mattress could form from the pad that was mailed to us! As we cut the plastic away the foam raised up to form a bed. That got everyone in the household excited. The concept is great. We are used to sleeping on a regular spring mattress with a thick 3-4 inch foam pad on top. The Cocoon, at first, was hard and took some time to get used to. We have only slept on it for a week and the paperwork that comes with the bed says to give it 100 days. I am starting to like it. The Cocoon seems to form into your badyshape and actually support you. My husband sweats alot during his sleep and usually always has to kick the blackets off during the night, he says that since we have been sleeping on the Cocoon, he is more comfortable tempurature wise. What is also nice is that not being a spring matress it does not move as much when your sleeping partner moves or gets up. My Husband and I have different schedules, so this helps tremendously, so we are both not bothered when the other gets up. This is by no means a luxouriuos mattress, but it is starting to grow on us.
